  • School-Record 129 Tornados Named Academic All-Conference

    A school-record 129 Brevard College student-athletes have been named 2020-21 USA South Academic All-Conference selections. Thirty one of the 128 BC student-athletes also earned “With Distinction” honors for superior academic achievement.

  • Williams Scores Career-High 32 as Tornados Conclude Postseason Run at Piedmont

    Senior forward Destiny Williams dropped a career-best 32 points as the Brevard College women’s basketball team (6-6) concluded its 2020-21 campaign, falling 88-63 to USA South West Division Tournament number one seed Piedmont College (15-3) on Wednesday evening in Cave Arena. Williams, an Aiken, South Carolina native, broke her previous career-high mark of 24 points set last Saturday vs. Huntingdon with a 32-point performance against the top-ranked Lions. Her 32 points came on 10 made field goals and a perfect 8-of-8 mark from the free throw line, while also knocking in a season-high four 3-pointers. The senior dominated the stat sheet in the contest, dishing out a game-high five assists and swiping a team-high five steals in addition to hauling down four boards. Makenna Parkins scored eight points and tallied four rebounds off the bench for BC, while Deja Riddick added seven points and three steals. Avery Lockwood grabbed a team-best seven rebounds in addition to six points for the Tornados.

    Making its first postseason appearance in the program’s NCAA-era history, the Brevard College women’s basketball team (6-5, 6-5 USAS) is set to meet number-one seed Piedmont College (14-3, 12-0 USAS) on Wednesday evening, with tip-off set for 6 p.m. at Cave Arena in Demorest, Georgia.
  • Tornados Win Fifth Straight to Earn First-Ever Trip to USA South Postseason

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (6-5, 6-5 USAS) earned its first-ever trip to the USA South Conference postseason with a 64-56 win over Huntingdon (5-9, 5-9 USAS) in the regular-season finale held Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  The win marked the fifth straight victory for the Tornados who defeated the Hawks for the second time in as many days. With the win, Brevard punched its ticket to the USA South West Division Tournament as the four-seed.  The Tornados will play at either Maryville or Piedmont in the tournament's semifinal to be held Wednesday, March 3, with the West Division Championship scheduled for Saturday, March 6.  It marks the first postseason USA South Conference appearance for any sport at Brevard College as the Tornados became full-time USA South members and eligible for conference postseason play in the 2020-21 academic year. The postseason appearance also marks the first for the women's basketball program over its 14-season stretch in the NCAA-era. Senior Destiny Williams set a new career high in her final game at the Boshamer Gymnasium with 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting.  Williams also pulled down a season-high 16 rebounds, including four offensive boards, en route to her ninth double-double in a Tornado uniform.  The Aiken, South Carolina native also dished out three assists along with one steal and one blocked shot. Deja Riddick, a senior from Norfolk, Virginia, scored a season-high 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line.  Remarkably, 15 of Riddick’s 17 points came in the second half, with nine points scored in the fourth quarter.  Riddick also registered a team-high four assists and pulled down six rebounds.
  • Tornados Win Fourth Straight on Senior Night

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (5-5, 5-5 USAS) earned its fourth straight victory with a 59-50 win over USA South Conference rival Huntingdon College (5-8, 5-8 USAS) on Friday night at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  The victory came on Senior Night as six seniors – Victoria Green, Meiya Mills, Bailey Ray, Deja Riddick, Shakirah Thompson and Destiny Williams – were honored in pre-game ceremonies. Riddick, a senior from Norfolk, Virginia, led the Tornados with 14 points and nine rebounds.  Williams scored 12 points, pulled down seven rebounds and dished out three assists.   Freshman Makenna Parkins came off the bench to score 11 points to go along with eight rebounds, including a game-high four offensive boards.  Thompson and freshman Calli Wells added eight points. Brevard never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 14 points, holding a double-digit advantage for most of the game.  BC ran out to a 14-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, then led 30-20 at the intermission.  The Tornados extended their lead even further in the third period to take a 44-31 lead into the final period.  Huntingdon cut the margin to six points in the final two minutes of the contest, however the Tornados were able to secure the win down the stretch on three made free throws by Williams and two makes from Riddick.

  • Tornados Close Out Regular Season, Honor Seniors in Pivotal Doubleheader vs. Huntingdon

    The Brevard College women's basketball team (4-5, 4-5 USAS) is slated to return to action this weekend with their last home games of the season at the Boshamer Gymnasiumin in crucial conference matchups against Huntingdon College (5-7, 5-7 USAS), with action beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday before the regular-season finale on Saturday at 2 p.m. This weekend marks the final home games for six Tornados, as they will be honored prior to Friday's contest. Seniors Victoria Green, Meiya Mills, Bailey Ray, Deja Riddick, Shakirah Thompson and Destiny Williams will all be honored prior to Friday's contest. Both contests will be live streamed at youtube.com/BrevardCollegeTornados, with live statistics available at bctornados.com. Senior night will be available to view online, with Friday's stream going live at 6:40 p.m. and the ceremony commencing at 6:45 p.m. A special edition of Tornado Talk featuring the BC women's basketball senior class will air on Tuesday, March 2 at 12 p.m. on the BC Athletics Facebook and YouTube channels.
  • BC Storms Past Agnes Scott for Third-Straight Victory

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (4-5, 4-5 USAS) rallied off its fourth-straight victory on Tuesday evening, defeating the Agnes Scott College Scotties (0-13, 0-13 USAS) by a final of 74-36 in BC’s regular season road finale. Destiny Williams led four double-digit scoring outputs for the Tornados, as the senior studded the stat sheet with 15 points, seven rebounds, a game-high five steals, and three assists. Williams scored at a highly-efficient clip, knocking down 7-of-10 from the field in the contest.  Fellow senior forward Deja Riddick added 12 points and five boards, while Makenna Parkins set a new career-high, pouring in 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting off the bench. Senior guard Shakirah Thompson added 10 points, while freshman guard Kaitlyn Light dished out a game best five assists. 
  • Tornados Head Down to Decatur on Tuesday

    The Brevard College women's basketball team (3-5, 3-5 USAS) is slated to return to action Tuesday, traveling to Decatur, Georgia for a conference matchup against Agnes Scott College (0-13, 0-13 USAS), with action beginning at 6:30 p.m. Live video and statistics will be available, free-of-charge, courtesy of Agnes Scott. Links to both can be found at bctornados.com.  In an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic, spectators will not be permitted to attend USA South Conference men's and women's basketball contests this season. Members of participating teams, game officials, and other essential personnel relevant to event operations will be the only individuals permitted into the venue for 2020-21 USA South basketball games. The policy is in accordance with the USA South Conference's policy announced on January 7, 2021.
  • Back-to-Back Conference Wins for BC Women’s Basketball

    Senior forward Destiny Williams matched a career-high with 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Brevard College women’s basketball team (3-5, 3-5 USAS) to a 69-60 USA South Conference victory over Wesleyan College (2-8, 2-8 USAS) on Saturday afternoon in Macon, Georgia.  Williams tallied 21 points on eight made field goals, including two 3-pointers. The 21 points matched her career-high set on January 23, 2019, at Covenant during the Aiken, South Carolina native’s sophomore season. Williams was also the team’s leading rebounder on Saturday with 10 boards, including three coming off the offensive glass. The 21-point, 10-rebound performance marked the senior’s eighth career double-double in a Tornado uniform.
  • Women’s Basketball Pulls out Thrilling Conference Victory over Wesleyan

    Senior forward Destiny Williams poured in 19 points to help lead the Brevard College women’s basketball team (2-5, 2-5 USAS) to a 59-56 triumph over Wesleyan College (2-7, 2-7 USAS) on Friday evening. Williams posted 19 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the field to lead the Tornados’ offensive attack against the Wolves. The Aiken, South Carolina native hauled in seven rebounds and led all players with five steals. Deja Riddick and Kaitlyn Light each scored seven points, while Riddick grabbed a team-best eight rebounds and dished out a team-high four assists. Avery Lockwood tallied six points, five rebounds, and three assists in reserve action, while Calli Wells added six points on 2-of-3 shooting from long distance.

  • Three Tornados Reach Double Figures in Setback to Piedmont

    Senior forward Destiny Williams posted her second 20-point performance of her senior season to lead three Tornados in double figures as the Brevard College women’s basketball team (1-5, 1-5 USAS) fell by a final of 85-60 to Piedmont College (9-3, 7-0 USAS) on Tuesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Williams, a senior from Aiken, South Carolina, scored 20 points for the second time in her senior season, while also grabbing six rebounds and swiping a team-high four steals. Avery Lockwood poured in 13 points off the bench in a near double-double effort that saw the junior center grab nine rebounds. Shakirah Thompson added 12 points on a team-best four made 3-pointers, while Makenna Parkins tallied six points in her first collegiate game. Senior forward Deja Riddick dished out a team-high three assists – all coming in the first quarter of play.

  • Hot Shooting Lifts #15 Maryville Past Brevard

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (1-4, 1-4 USAS) dropped the finale of a two-game weekend doubleheader to #15 Maryville College (8-0, 8-0 USAS), 78-50, on Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Maryville used an impressive 29-of-53 (54.87%) mark from the field that included eight 3-pointers and an 85.7% mark from the free-throw line to sweep the Tornados. Senior forward Deja Riddick led all BC scorers with 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field, while hauling down seven rebounds. Chyna Pouncey grabbed a game-best eight rebounds to go along with seven points, while seniors Bailey Ray and Destiny Williams also added seven points. Williams added six rebounds and a team-high three steals to her stat line in the contest. Maryville was paced by a balanced attack that included four double-digit scorers.     The Brevard College women’s basketball team (1-3, 1-3 USAS) fell by a final of 76-39 to the nationally-ranked #15 Maryville College Scots (7-0, 7-0 USAS) on Friday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Destiny Williams led all Tornado scorers with a 10-point effort that included five made field goals. The senior forward hauled in a team-best five rebounds alongside a pair of assists and steals. Calli Wells posted seven points, while Avery Lockwood and Deja Riddick added six points each. Lockwood brought down four boards, while Riddick snagged three steals. The Scots were paced by Jordan Heifner who tallied 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting, including three 3-pointers made. Courtney Carruthers added 13 points off the bench, while Kelley Wandell posted a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.

    Senior forward Destiny Williams poured in 20 points to lead the Brevard College women’s basketball team (1-2, 1-2 USAS) to its first victory of the 2020-21 season, as the Tornados cruised to an 86-32 victory over Agnes Scott College (0-9, 0-9 USAS) on Tuesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium. A total of 13 Tornados tallied points in Brevard’s home debut to help claim the decisive victory. Williams, a senior from Aiken, South Carolina, tallied 20 points on a very efficient 7-of-8 shooting from the field, adding a made 3-pointer and five free throws into the mix. Williams hauled in seven boards in addition to three assists and a game-high four steals. Tuesday’s effort marked the third time that Williams has tallied 20 points or more in her BC career.

    Senior forward Deja Riddick put up a double-double as the Brevard College women’s basketball team (0-2, 0-2 USAS) closed out a weekend USA South doubleheader, falling to the Covenant Scots (3-13, 2-6 USAS), 67-52 in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. Riddick, a senior from Norfolk, Virginia, posted 15 points on 6-of-16 shooting in addition to grabbing 11 boards for her first double-double of the 2020-21 campaign. The senior added three assists and swiped four steals to lead Brevard defensively. Victoria Green (nine points) and Chyna Pouncey (eight points) contributed as reserves, while Kaitlyn Light added eight points on a pair of made 3-pointers. Pouncey led all subs with seven rebounds, while Avery Lockwood snagged six boards.

Avery Lockwood led all Tornados with 10 points offensively to go alongside eight rebounds. Deja Riddick hauled down 14 rebounds to go alongside nine points and six assists, while Bailey Ray added six points and six rebounds off the bench.

    Brevard College Women's Basketball has announced the reschedule dates for its USA South Conference contests against Agnes Scott College, which were postponed earlier in the season. The Tornados and Scotties will now face off in a home-and-away series, with the first contest set for Tuesday, February 9 at 6 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium on the campus of Brevard College. Brevard will then travel to Decatur, Georgia on Tuesday, February 23 at 6:30 p.m. to conclude the season series with the Scotties.

    In accordance with USA South COVID-19 management protocols, the USA South Conference women's basketball games between Brevard College and LaGrange College, which were scheduled to take place January 29-30 in LaGrange, Georgia, have been adjusted. The Tornados and Panthers will now play in a single contest on Saturday, January 30 at 5 p.m. in LaGrange. Friday’s matchup has been postponed, as the USA South Conference will now explore if the contest will be able to be played at a later date.
  • Brevard vs. Piedmont Women’s Basketball Games Postponed

    In accordance with USA South COVID-19 management protocols, the USA South Conference women's basketball games between Brevard College and Piedmont College which were scheduled to take place January 22-23 at the Boshamer Gymnasium have been postponed. The games will now be played in a home-and-away series later in the regular season. Brevard will travel to Demorest, Georgia on Tuesday, February 2 to face Piedmont at 6 p.m. before concluding the season series against the Lions on Tuesday, February 16 at Boshamer Gymnasium, with tip off scheduled for 6 p.m.
