Boshamer Gymnasium Athletic Training Room – 203
The Brevard College Sports Medicine Department is comprised of certified athletic trainers, licensed physicians, and other health care professionals who work together to optimize performance and provide health care for the student-athletes competing on all of Brevard College’s 21 intercollegiate athletic teams.
Athletic Trainers (ATs) are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians. The services provided by ATs comprise prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) as a healthcare profession. All staff ATs are certified by the Board of Certification (BOC) as well as licensed to practice in the state of North Carolina through the North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners (NCBATE).
The Brevard College Sports Medicine Department provides medical services for the student-athletes throughout the day out of the Boshamer Gymnasium Athletic Training Room, as well as coverage at the teams' practices and competitions. Other responsibilities include: travel with teams; appropriate health care referral; drug testing education and coordination; supervision, education, and evaluation of undergraduate athletic training students; and the education of Brevard College students and coaches in sports medicine and emergency response including CPR certification.
Pardee UNC Health Care recently signed an agreement that will provide exclusive medical care to Brevard College student-athletes. Through this agreement, Pardee will provide medical support to Brevard College's men's and women's athletic teams. Working with Southeastern Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, a department of Pardee Hospital, and other sports medicine providers, Pardee clinicians will work year-round with BC student-athletes in support of training, injury prevention, treatment and game-day medical coverage.
