#15 Maryville Downs Brevard at The Bosh

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's basketball team (1-3, 1-3 USAS) fell by a final of 76-39 to the nationally-ranked #15 Maryville College Scots (7-0, 7-0 USAS) on Friday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

Destiny Williams led all Tornado scorers with a 10-point effort that included five made field goals. The senior forward hauled in a team-best five rebounds alongside a pair of assists and steals. Calli Wells posted seven points, while Avery Lockwood and Deja Riddick added six points each. Lockwood brought down four boards, while Riddick snagged three steals.

The Scots were paced by Jordan Heifner who tallied 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting, including three 3-pointers made. Courtney Carruthers added 13 points off the bench, while Kelley Wandell posted a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Maryville, who was recently placed in D3Hoops.com's national rankings, outrebounded the Tornados 49-27 while shooting at a 40.7% clip in the contest (22-of-54 FG's). The visitors knocked in 10 3-pointers and turned 26 BC turnovers into 35 points-off-turnovers. The Tornados were able to force 25 turnovers themselves, while outscoring Maryville in the paint, 26-22.

The Scots were able to lead wire-to-wire in the contest, using a big first quarter in which they out-paced BC by a 17-4 scoring margin. Maryville held the Tornados collectively to a 1-of-15 mark from the field, with Brevard's only bucket coming on a Lockwood jumper with 20 seconds left in the first quarter.

Lockwood, Riddick, and Kaitlyn Light each scored in the early part of the second quarter for the hosts, however, the Scots extended their advantage to a 33-11 margin with 4:02 left to play in the half. Both sides traded buckets prior to intermission, as Maryville took a 21-point, 38-17 lead into the break.

The Scots were able to outscore BC by 15 points in the third quarter, 24-9, to extend their lead to a commanding 62-26 margin. Williams and Wells paced BC down the stretch with four points each, while Shakirah Thompson drained a 3-pointer in the final minute of regulation, but the Scots closed the door to claim the conference triumph, 76-39.
