BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women’s basketball team (1-2, 1-2 USAS) continues its stretch of home contests this weekend when the Tornados play host to #15 Maryville College (6-0, 6-0 USAS) at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

Tipoff times are slated for 7 p.m. on Friday evening and 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Live video and statistics will be available on youtube.com/ BrevardCollegeTornados and bctornados.com.

In an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic, spectators will not be permitted to attend USA South Conference men's and women's basketball contests this season. Members of participating teams, game officials, and other essential personnel relevant to event operations will be the only individuals permitted into the venue for 2020-21 USA South basketball games. The policy is in accordance with the USA South Conference's policy announced on January 7, 2021.

Brevard is coming off a big victory in its first home contest of the season, as the Tornados stormed past Agnes Scott, 86-32, on Tuesday evening. Destiny Williams led all scorers with a 20-point performance - the third time that Williams has tallied 20 points or more in her BC career - while Kaitlyn Light (14 points) and Melvin Seymore (13 points) also reached double figures. Light knocked in a game-best four 3-pointers, while Deja Riddick (nine rebounds), Avery Lockwood (seven rebounds), and Chyna Pouncey (six rebounds) helped BC control the glass.

Williams, who made her season debut on Tuesday, comes into this weekend’s contests leading BC in scoring per game, while Riddick leads the Tornados with 11.3 rebounds per contest.

Maryville, who was recently tapped by D3Hoops.com as the 15th ranked team in NCAA DIII women’s basketball, enters play this weekend on the heels of a 6-0 start in its conference season. The Scots have been led offensively by senior guard Klaire Varney, who has poured in an average of 23.5 points-per-game in the two contests she has seen action in. Courtney Carruthers (14.5 ppg), Jordan Heifner (12 ppg), and Elsa Eckenrod (10.7 ppg) have also averaged double-figures for the visitors. Kelley Wandell has controlled the glass with 9.3 rebounds-per-game.

The Scots are most recently coming off a doubleheader sweep of Agnes Scott last weekend. Maryville has taken down fellow USA South foes Covenant and Huntingdon as well in the earlier part of its season.

BC is scheduled to wrap up its four-game homestand on Tuesday, February 16 at 6 p.m. when Piedmont College visits the Boshamer Gymnasium.
