Tornados Close Out Regular Season, Honor Seniors in Pivotal Doubleheader vs. Huntingdon

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's basketball team (4-5, 4-5 USAS) is slated to return to action this weekend with their last home games of the season at the Boshamer Gymnasiumin in crucial conference matchups against Huntingdon College (5-7, 5-7 USAS), with action beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday before the regular-season finale on Saturday at 2 p.m.

This weekend marks the final home games for six Tornados, as they will be honored prior to Friday's contest. Seniors Victoria Green, Meiya Mills, Bailey Ray, Deja Riddick, Shakirah Thompson and Destiny Williams will all be honored prior to Friday's contest.

Both contests will be live streamed at youtube.com/BrevardCollegeTornados, with live statistics available at bctornados.com. Senior night will be available to view online, with Friday's stream going live at 6:40 p.m. and the ceremony commencing at 6:45 p.m. A special edition of Tornado Talk featuring the BC women's basketball senior class will air on Tuesday, March 2 at 12 p.m. on the BC Athletics Facebook and YouTube channels. 

In an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic, spectators will not be permitted to attend USA South Conference men's and women's basketball contests this season. Members of participating teams, game officials, and other essential personnel relevant to event operations will be the only individuals permitted into the venue for 2020-21 USA South basketball games. The policy is in accordance with the USA South Conference's policy announced on January 7, 2021.

The Tornados are coming off a three-game win streak, with a recent 74-36 win over Agnes Scott College. Destiny Williams led four double-digit scoring outputs for the Tornados, as the senior studded the stat sheet with 15 points, seven rebounds, a game-high five steals, and three assists. Williams scored at a highly-efficient clip, knocking down 7-of-10 from the field in the contest. Fellow senior forward Deja Riddick added 12 points and five boards, while Makenna Parkins set a new career-high, pouring in 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting off the bench. Senior guard Shakirah Thompson added 10 points, while freshman guard Kaitlyn Light dished out a game-best five assists. 

BC's Williams is coming in averaging 16 points-per-game through nine contests this season, while grabbing 6.9 boards a game and swiping a team-high four steals a contest. Huntingdon is coming off a weekend split against Covenant College, and has been paced by A.B. Davis who is averaging 12.5 points-per-game.

The USA South Conference Women's Basketball West Division Tournament is slated to begin on Wednesday, March 3, with the Division Championship slated for Saturday, March 6. The top-four seeded teams from each division will advance to their respective tournaments. The winners of those events will be crowned Divisional Conference Champions.
