  • School-Record 129 Tornados Named Academic All-Conference

    A school-record 129 Brevard College student-athletes have been named 2020-21 USA South Academic All-Conference selections. Thirty one of the 128 BC student-athletes also earned “With Distinction” honors for superior academic achievement.

    See More @USA_South on Twitter & Instagram BREVARD, N.C. – Several student-athletes from the Brevard College Men's Basketball team have donated their time three times per week assisting with referee duties for the Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club spring youth basketball league located in Brevard, North Carolina. The connection was put together by Brevard College Assistant Men's Basketball Coach Miles Leathers and Devon Holmes, the Health and Wellness Director at the Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club. Holmes, the Positive Coaching Alliance 2020 National Coach of the Year, is a 2014 graduate of Brevard where he was a football student-athlete. Leathers is a 2016 graduate of Brecard where he set several school records on the basketball court.
  • Samoura, Sealy Drop Career Highs in Double Overtime Heartbreaker in Season Finale

    Junior guard Ladji Samoura and sophomore guard David Sealy poured in career-high scoring totals, but the Brevard College men’s basketball team (1-6, 1-5 USAS) fell in heartbreaking fashion, as the Berea College Mountaineers (1-8, 1-8 USAS) came back in the late stages of regulation before earning a two-point victory in double overtime on Sunday afternoon at the Seabury Center in Berea, Kentucky. Samoura, a junior transfer from Fayetteville, North Carolina, posted his first 20-plus game as a Tornado, dropping 22 points off the bench in a season-high 44 minutes on the court. The junior knocked in seven shots from the field, with five of those makes coming from beyond the arc. Sealy added a career-best 17 points with five-made 3-pointers. Hayden Cassell added 10 points, while Alex Wesig posted a nine-point, eight-rebound effort. LB Boyette added seven points and eight rebounds off the bench, while Charles Reed grabbed eight boards in his first career start.
  • Tornados Top Mountaineers with Five Players in Double Figures

    The Brevard College men’s basketball team (1-5, 1-4 USAS) defeated host Berea College (0-9, 0-9 USAS), 79-66, in a USA South Conference tilt on Saturday in Berea, Kentucky. Five Tornados scored in double figures in the victory, led by junior forward Alex Wesig, who sank three 3-pointers en route to a game-high 18 points.  David Sealy registered his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds as the sophomore from Deltona, Florida went a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc.  Sealy also led the Tornados with three steals to go along with two assists. Junior Ladji Samoura scored 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds.  Freshman Charles Reed scored a career-high 13 points in his second career game in a Tornado uniform, while freshman LB Boyette scored 10 points to go along with a career-highs of eight rebounds and five assists.
  • Brevard Closes Season at Berea with Weekend Doubleheader

    The Brevard College Tornados men's basketball team (0-5, 0-4 USAS) wraps up its 2020-21 campaign, making its first and final road trip of the season against Berea College (0-8, 0-8 USAS) in Berea, Kentucky on Saturday and Sunday, with tipoffs slated for 4 p.m. and 12 p.m. To watch both contests live, follow this link via Berea College Athletics: https://www.youtube.com/c/BereaAthletics/live.   • Covenant Defeats Brevard in Home Finale

    The Brevard College men's basketball team (0-5, 0-4 USAS) fell by a final of 89-61 to USA South Conference rival Covenant College (8-8, 4-5 USAS) on Tuesday night at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  The game marked the 2020-21 home season finale for the Tornados. Brevard was led by junior Ladji Samoura who scored 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting ,including a 3-of-5 mark from the three-point line.  Point guard David Sealy also scored in double figures with 10 points.  Michael Peters came off the bench with nine points on 4-of-8 shooting. Covenant was led by Chris Barnette with 15 points to go along with Will Crumly's 13 points.  In total, four Scots scored in double figures with Gage Maffetone (12 pts) and Brady Palmer (11 pts) joining Barnette and Crumly.

    The Brevard College Tornados men's basketball team (0-4, 0-3 USAS) is set for its final scheduled USA South Conference contest at the Boshamer Gymnasium in 2021, hosting Covenant College (7-8, 3-5 USAS) at the Boshamer Gymnasium on Tuesday night, with tipoff slated for 6 p.m. Live video and statistics will be available online, free-of-charge, on youtube.com/BrevardCollegeTornados and bctornados.com.   In an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic, spectators will not be permitted to attend Brevard College men's and women's basketball home games this season at the Boshamer Gymnasium on the BC campus.  Members of participating teams, game officials, media, and other essential personnel relevant to event operations will be the only individuals permitted into the venue for 2020-21 Brevard College basketball games. The policy is in accordance with the USA South Conference's policy announced on January 7, 2021.
  • Brevard Men's Basketball Saturday Contest vs. Huntingdon Canceled

    In accordance with USA South COVID-19 management protocols, the USA South Conference men's basketball contest between Brevard College and Huntingdon College, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 20, has been canceled. The Tornados are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, February 23 at 6 p.m. vs. Covenant College at the Boshamer Gymnasium. 
  • Hawks Pull Away from Tornados at The Bosh

    The Brevard College men’s basketball team (0-4, 0-3 USAS) returned to action on Friday evening, falling by a final of 70-56 to the Huntingdon College Hawks (4-8, 4-5 USAS) at the Boshamer Gymnasium in USA South Conference action. Junior guard Ladji Samoura posted a season-high 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, including a pair of made 3-pointers. Freshman guard Carson Evans added a career-best 14 points on five made field goals – including three 3-point buckets - to go alongside five rebounds and three assists in his first collegiate start. Hayden Cassell added nine points to Brevard’s effort, while Quincy Carter tallied eight points, five rebounds, and three assists. Alex Wesig snagged five boards alongside four points and a team-best three steals.
  • Tornados Set to Host Hawks Over the Weekend

    The Brevard College Tornados men's basketball team (0-3, 0-2 USAS) is set for back-to-back home games, hosting Huntingdon College (3-8, 3-5 USAS) at the Boshamer Gymnasium on Friday and Saturday, with tipoff slated for 6 p.m Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday. The Tornados have been led by freshman LB Boyette, who posted 12 points in the season-opener vs. Greensboro, and junior Ladji Samoura, who has averaged 10.7 points-per-game through three games. Huntingdon comes into play on Friday with a 3-8 record on the season, as the Hawks lost the past two closely contested games against Piedmont College, with one going into overtime. Following this weekend's action, the Tornados will return to action at Boshamer Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 23 against Covenant College in a mid-week conference match-up. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The USA South Conference will explore if the contests will be able to be played at a later date.
  • Men's Basketball Contests at LaGrange Postponed

    In accordance with USA South COVID-19 management protocols, the USA South Conference men's basketball games between Brevard College and LaGrange College, which were scheduled to take place on Friday and Saturday, February 12-13 in LaGrange, Georgia, have been postponed. The USA South Conference will explore if the contests will be able to be played at a later date.
  • Men’s Basketball Series at Piedmont Pushed to Saturday and Sunday, February 6-7

    The weekend USA South Conference men’s basketball doubleheader between Brevard and Piedmont, originally slated for Friday, February 5 and Saturday, February 6, has been adjusted. The Tornados and Lions will now play in Demorest, Georgia on Saturday, February 6 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, February 7 at 2 p.m.
  • Scots Storm Past Tornados, Sweep Weekend Doubleheader

    The Brevard College Men’s Basketball team (0-3, 0-2 USAS) fell in the second of back-to-back weekend contests to the Maryville Scots (3-1, 3-1 USAS), 86-53, on Sunday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Ladji Samoura posted a team-high 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from long range in addition to grabbing four rebounds and dishing out three assists. Junior forward Hayden Cassell added nine points and swiped five steals, while sophomore guard David Sealy put up six points, six assists, and five rebounds. Benjamin Jeffcoat and Alex Wesig each scored seven points, while John Martin tallied a pair of blocks off the bench.
  • Tornados Fall to Scots in Conference Opener

    The Brevard College Men’s Basketball team (0-2, 0-1 USAS) dropped its USA South Conference opener, 88-63, to the visiting Maryville College Scots (2-1, 1-1 USAS) on Saturday evening inside the Boshamer Gymnasium. David Sealy led all Tornados with 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers. Sealy stuffed the stat sheet in what was a career-best outing for the sophomore guard out of Deltona, Florida, who made his second career start. Sealy added six rebounds, four assists, and four steals to his offensive output to pace three double-digit Tornado scorers. Michael Peters, a freshman forward from Charlotte, added 14 points in 18 minutes of action off the bench, knocking down a pair of triples on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor, while grabbing five rebounds in his second collegiate contest. Ladji Samoura, a junior transfer from Fayetteville, North Carolina, added 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting. Benjamin Jeffcoat, a sophomore transfer from Columbia, South Carolina, made his Tornado debut on Saturday, totaling six points and four assists.
  • Men's Basketball Contest vs. Covenant Rescheduled for Tuesday, February 23

    Brevard College Men's Basketball has announced a reschedule date for its USA South Conference contest against Covenant College which was postponed earlier in the season.  The Tornados and Scots are now set to match up in a single game on Tuesday, February 23 at 6 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium. In an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic, spectators will not be permitted to attend Brevard College men's and women's basketball home games this season at the Boshamer Gymnasium on the BC campus. The policy is in accordance with the USA South Conference's policy announced on January 7, 2021. Live video broadcasts of all home men's and women's basketball games will be available via livestream, free of charge, on the Brevard College Athletics YouTube channel.

The Tornados and Scots will tip off their two-game weekend series at 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, and will wrap up action against each other on Sunday, January 24 at 3 p.m. In an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic, spectators will not be permitted to attend Brevard College men's and women's basketball home games this season at the Boshamer Gymnasium on the BC campus. The policy is in accordance with the USA South Conference's policy announced on January 7, 2021.   • BC Men’s Basketball Hosts Maryville at The Bosh

    The Brevard College Tornados Men's Basketball team (0-1) is set for back-to-back home games, hosting Maryville College (1-1) at the Boshamer Gymnasium on Friday and Saturday, with tipoff slated for 6 p.m Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday. Maryville comes into play on Sunday with a 1-1 record on the season, as the Scots split games with Piedmont College. Maryville's early season has been highlighted by a victory over fellow USA South Conference member Piedmont College, 82-73, on January 15. Through two games, the Scots are led by Myles Rasnick who is averaging 21.5 ppg. The Tornados were led by LB Boyette with 12 points in their first and only game of the season against Greensboro College on January 10. A total of 14 Tornados made their debuts for Brevard in the season-opener, including eight freshman and six transfer student-athletes.
  • USA South Releases Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll

    The USA South Conference Men’s Basketball coaches have released their annual Preseason Poll for the 2020-21 season, pegging Brevard seventh in the USA South West Division. Each divisional preseason poll only includes votes from coaches within that particular division-only. Head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting. The 2021 USA South Men's Basketball Tournament will once again be conducted exclusively on campus sites. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the tournament size will be reduced to the top-two seeded teams from each division. Additionally, USA South rules implemented for this season state that teams must complete seven Conference contests to be eligible to earn a divisional championship and/or advance to USA South tournament play. Divisional championships will take place between the two-top teams from each division with the winners facing each other for the USA South Championship.

  • Men’s Basketball Falls in Season Opener to Greensboro

    The Brevard College Men’s Basketball team (0-1) played in its long-awaited season-opening contest of the 2020-21 regular season, falling by a final of 92-53 to Greensboro College (2-5) on Sunday evening inside of Boshamer Gymnasium. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition marked the first time in 306 days that a varsity team at Brevard College has played in outside competition against another institution.
  • Men’s Basketball Opens Season Sunday vs. Greensboro

    The Brevard College Tornados Men’s Basketball team gears up for its long-awaited season-opening contest, hosting Greensboro College (1-5) in its home-opener at the Boshamer Gymnasium on Sunday, with tip-off slated for 3 p.m. BC men’s basketball, led by Head Coach Lee Burgess (ninth year) and Assistant Coach Miles Leathers (second season), is coming off a 2019-20 season that saw the Tornados earn their most home wins (five) since the 2010-11 season and their most conference victories (six) since the 2014-15 campaign. The Tornados welcome a robust class of new talent, with 14 newcomers alongside five returning student-athletes. Greensboro comes into play on Sunday with a 1-5 record on the season, as the Pride have been in action since early December facing off in non-conference contests and exhibitions. Greensboro’s early season has been highlighted by a victory over fellow USA South Conference member Piedmont College, 67-62, on December 10. The Pride also earned an impressive 67-64 victory over NCAA DI member Longwood University on December 6 in an exhibition matchup on the road.
  • Spectator Policy Announced for Brevard College Men’s and Women’s Basketball Home Games

    In an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic, spectators will not be permitted to attend Brevard College men’s and women’s basketball home games this season at the Boshamer Gymnasium on the BC campus.  Members of participating teams, game officials, media, and other essential personnel relevant to event operations will be the only individuals permitted into the venue for 2020-21 Brevard College basketball games.  The policy is in accordance with the USA South Conference’s policy announced on January 7, 2021. The official USA South Conference policy reads as follows: The Presidents of the USA South Athletic Conference have unanimously agreed to a Conference policy stating that no spectators shall be permitted to attend any indoor USA South sporting event. This includes the sport of basketball which is scheduled to begin Conference play during the weekend of January 16th. The lack of spectators will allow institutional staff to focus solely on maintaining the health and safety of those participating in the event.

    In line with recent actions regarding fall sports, combined with a continued focus on the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, and athletics staffs, the Presidents of the USA South Athletic Conference have voted unanimously to postpone all men's and women's basketball conference competition until the spring 2021 semester.
