Scots Storm Past Tornados, Sweep Weekend Doubleheader

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College Men's Basketball team (0-3, 0-2 USAS) fell in the second of back-to-back weekend contests to the Maryville Scots (3-1, 3-1 USAS), 86-53, on Sunday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

Ladji Samoura posted a team-high 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from long range in addition to grabbing four rebounds and dishing out three assists. Junior forward Hayden Cassell added nine points and swiped five steals, while sophomore guard David Sealy put up six points, six assists, and five rebounds. Benjamin Jeffcoat and Alex Wesig each scored seven points, while John Martin tallied a pair of blocks off the bench.

JR Sanders led all scorers with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting for the Scots, while Kevin Chong (14 points) and Myles Rasnick (10 points) also posted double-figure scoring totals. Felix Uadiale scored nine points and grabbed a game-best nine boards in a near double-double effort, while Nicholas Clifton added eight points and eight rebounds.

As a team, the Scots repeated their efficient scoring output from Saturday, shooting 30-of-62 (48.4%) from the field to BC's 30.4%. Maryville was able to outrebound the Tornados, 52-23, while establishing its presence in the paint by scoring 42 points in the painted area. Brevard knocked in nine shots from long range compared to the Scots' six.

Maryville led the contest wire-to-wire, kicking off the contest on a 14-3 scoring run that was halted by a Benjamin Jeffcoat 3-pointer at the 12:40 mark. BC cut Maryville's lead to seven points with 10:17 left in the first half after Michael Peters knocked down a turnaround jumper, however, the Scots wouldn't let Brevard within single digits for the remainder of the contest. Maryville extended its lead to as many as 23 points with 2:36 left to play in the first half before cruising to the 33-point victory in the second period.

The Tornados are scheduled to return to USA South Conference play on Friday, February 5 at 6 p.m. for a weekend road doubleheader against Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia.
