Men’s Basketball Falls in Season Opener to Greensboro

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College Men's Basketball team (0-1) played in its long-awaited season-opening contest of the 2020-21 regular season, falling by a final of 92-53 to Greensboro College (2-5) on Sunday evening inside of Boshamer Gymnasium.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition marked the first time in 306 days that a varsity team at Brevard College has played in outside competition against another institution.

LB Boyette, a freshman from Charlotte, led all Tornados with 12 points on five made field goals – including a pair of 3-pointers - in his collegiate debut for BC. Junior transfer Ladji Samoura added eight points on 3-of-7 shooting from the field in his BC debut, while sophomore guard David Sealy posted seven points on 2-of-2 shooting in his first career start. Alex Wesig, a junior transfer from Lawrenceville, Georgia, dished out a team-best four assists and grabbed four rebounds alongside freshman Michael Peters, who snagged four points and went a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Greensboro was led by Greyson Collins who poured in 23 points on 5-of-10 shooting and 11-of-11 at the foul line. Matthew Brown and Zachary Moser added 12 points each for the Pride, while Keyshawn Dorsey grabbed a game-high eight boards.

The Pride boasted an efficient offensive attack that shot 30-of-58 from the field (51.7%) compared to Brevard's 16-of-40 clip (40%). Greensboro was able to outshoot BC at the free-throw line (78.1% to 51.7%) and out-rebound the Tornados, 36-24. The contest was decided in large part by Greensboro scoring 35 points off of 25 Brevard turnovers while the Pride scored 34 points in the paint and 41 bench points.

A total of 14 Tornados made their debuts for Brevard on the afternoon, including eight freshman and six transfer student-athletes.

The Tornados are scheduled to return to action next weekend when Brevard opens USA South Conference play, hosting Covenant College on Friday, January 15 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, January 16 at 3 p.m.
