Covenant Defeats Brevard in Home Finale

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (0-5, 0-4 USAS) fell by a final of 89-61 to USA South Conference rival Covenant College (8-8, 4-5 USAS) on Tuesday night at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  The game marked the 2020-21 home season finale for the Tornados.
 
Brevard was led by junior Ladji Samoura who scored 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting ,including a 3-of-5 mark from the three-point line.  Point guard David Sealy also scored in double figures with 10 points.  Michael Peters came off the bench with nine points on 4-of-8 shooting.
 
Covenant was led by Chris Barnette with 15 points to go along with Will Crumly's 13 points.  In total, four Scots scored in double figures with Gage Maffetone (12 pts) and Brady Palmer (11 pts) joining Barnette and Crumly.
 
Covenant jumped ahead to a big lead late in the first half to take a 45-19 lead into intermission.  The Scots were lethal from beyond the arc in the opening half, shooting 7-of-11 from the land of three to propel their offensive attack.
 
The second half proved a tighter affair with Covenant outscoring Brevard 44-42 in the final stanza.  Samoura scored eight of his 11 points in the second half, hitting both of his three-point attempts.  Peters came off the bench to score all nine of his points  in the second half.  Reserves Jamal Frink, Carson Evans, Ely Kessinger, Sly White, Benjamin Jeffcoat and Luke Bleynat also saw valuable minutes for the Tornados.
 
Brevard will return to action with its final two-game USA South Conference series of the season with a trip to Berea College on Saturday and Sunday in Berea, Kentucky.  Saturday's tip off is set for 4 p.m. ET with Sunday's game time scheduled for 12 p.m. ET.
