Andrew Ingram Named 2021 ITA Scholar-AthleteJuly 14, 2021Rising senior student-athlete Andrew Ingram has been selected as a Scholar-Athlete by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Ingram, a native of Belmont, North Carolina, garners the first Scholar-Athlete selection of his Tornado career. The rising senior joins a list of 20 all-time Tornados to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status in the NCAA era. Ingram’s honor marks the third-consecutive and fifth Scholar-Athlete selection for Brevard College men’s tennis in the last six years.

School-Record 129 Tornados Named Academic All-ConferenceJune 16, 2021A school-record 129 Brevard College student-athletes have been named 2020-21 USA South Academic All-Conference selections. Thirty one of the 128 BC student-athletes also earned “With Distinction” honors for superior academic achievement.

BC Men’s Tennis Edged 5-4 by FalconsApril 25, 2021The Brevard College men’s tennis team (2-6) was narrowly defeated by Pfeiffer (5-4) by a team score of 5-4 on Sunday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex.

Garland & McGee Earn USA South HonorsApril 22, 2021Brevard College tennis sophomores Brooke Garland and Ethan McGee each earned postseason honors from the USA South Conference following the conclusion of the conference’s regular season. McGee earned All-Conference honors as USA South Conference Men’s Tennis All-West Division Honorable Mention in addition to a selection on the USA South Men’s Tennis All-Sportsmanship team. Garland was honored on the USA South Women’s Tennis All-Sportsmanship Team.

Tornados Cruise for Conference Triumph over Maryville, 7-2April 11, 2021Brevard College (2-5, 2-3 USAS) earned its second victory of the season, defeating host Maryville College (1-3, 1-3 USAS) at Tyson Park on Sunday evening in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Tornados claimed a pair of doubles victories and 5-of-6 singles matches en route to the 7-2 team triumph.

Covenant Sweeps Brevard in Conference ActionApril 02, 2021The Brevard College men’s tennis team (1-5, 1-3 USAS) fell, 9-0, to Covenant College (8-4, 4-0 USAS) on Friday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex on the campus of Brevard College. The Scots claimed six matches by decision, with three match victories coming by default.

Piedmont Sweeps Brevard in Non-Conference PlayMarch 20, 2021The Brevard College men's tennis team (1-4) fell in straight-match fashion to Piedmont College (3-8) on Saturday morning at the McCoy Tennis Complex. Ethan McGee paired up with Devin Horton in number-one doubles, taking Piedmont's pairing of Jackson Traylor and Connor Bowles down to the wire in the first doubles match of the morning. McGee and Horton forced a tiebreaker, falling 14-12 in the deciding tiebreaker. Andrew Ingram and JaMarcus Walker started in the number-two doubles position, falling by a final of 8-4 as the Lions jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after doubles action. McGee and Traylor met once again in singles play, battling in a back-and-forth first set that Traylor claimed, 7-5, before a 6-2 second set. The Lions went on to sweep the remaining singles matches to wrap up the weekend sweep.

Tornados Fall in Conference Match to LionsMarch 19, 2021The Brevard College men's tennis team (1-3, 1-2 USAS) returned to the McCoy Tennis Complex on a rainy Friday afternoon, falling 9-0 to the visiting Piedmont College Lions (2-8, 2-0 USAS) in USA South Conference play. In doubles play, BC's Andrew Ingram and JaMarcus Walker paired up in the top-flight, falling 8-2 to Piedmont's top doubles duo of Silas Sandles and Roman Webb. Brevard's Miles Schafer and Devin Horton picked up a game point in the number-two spot ahead of singles play.

Tornados Set to Host Lions at McCoy Tennis ComplexMarch 18, 2021The Brevard College men's tennis team (1-2, 1-2 USAS) is set for a home USA South conference matchup against Piedmont College (1-8) this Friday and Saturday at McCoy Tennis Complex. The Tornados are scheduled for a conference dual match on Friday at 3 p.m. with a non-conference matchup set for Saturday at 9 a.m. The Tornados come off a USA South conference loss against Huntingdon College last Saturday in Montgomery, Alabama. Ethan McGee continues his hot streak for the Tornados, staying undefeated in singles matches this season. In addition, freshman Hunter Williams won in his last singles matchup against the Hawks.

BC Drops Match in Montgomery; McGee Remains UndefeatedMarch 14, 2021The Brevard College men’s tennis team (1-2) dropped a non-conference team competition 6-3 to host Huntingdon (5-4) on Sunday in Montgomery, Alabama. Sophomore Ethan McGee continued his undefeated start to the 2021 season with his third consecutive victory for the Tornados at the number one singles position. McGee won in the closest match of his season thus far, defeating HC’s Clint Robinson in straight sets, 7-6 and 6-2. The reigning USA South Conference Player of the Week, McGee had outscored his opponents 24-1 entering Sunday. The Salisbury, North Carolina native improved to a perfect 6-0 in sets in 2021. McGee teamed up with Andrew Ingram in number one doubles, however, the Tornado duo was defeated by HC’s Robinson and Carson Sands 8-2. Miles Schafer and Devin Horton combined to play number two doubles once again for BC, yet fell 8-5 in a tight match to John David Bailey and Cameron Reed.

Hawks Edge Tornados in MontgomeryMarch 13, 2021The Brevard College men’s tennis team (1-1, 1-1 USAS) were edged by host Huntingdon (4-4, 2-0 USAS), 5-4 in a tight USA South Conference contest on Saturday afternoon in Montgomery, Alabama. The Hawks opened doubles play with wins in number one and two doubles. Brevard’s number three doubles team of Hunter Williams and JaMarcus Walker won via default to make the score 2–1 after the opening session. Reigning USA South Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Ethan McGee continued his dominant play at number one singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over HU’s Carson Sands. McGee, a sophomore from Salisbury, North Carolina, has now outscored his opponents 24-1 through two matches in number one singles.

Tornados Head to Montgomery for First Trip of 2021March 11, 2021The Brevard College men's tennis team (1-0, 1-0 USAS) heads to Montgomery, Alabama for its first road trip this season against Huntingdon College (2-4, 1-0 USAS) this Saturday and Sunday. The Tornados are scheduled for a conference dual match on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. CT, with a non-conference matchup set for Sunday at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT.

McGee Takes Home USA South Player of the Week HonorMarch 08, 2021Brevard College men’s tennis freshman Ethan McGee has been honored by the USA South Conference, earning Men’s Tennis Player of the Week accolades following BC’s season-opening 8-1 victory over Berea College last Saturday at the McCoy Tennis Complex. McGee, a sophomore from Salisbury, North Carolina, helped lead the Tornados to victory with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory in the number-one singles play. The sophomore also teamed up with junior Andrew Ingram in the top-spot in doubles action, taking an 8-3 victory to pace the Tornados.

BC Men’s Tennis Cruises to Season-Opening WinMarch 06, 2021The Brevard College men’s tennis team (1-0, 1-0 USAS) opened its season with a resounding 8-1 USA South Conference win over Berea (0-1, 0-1 USAS) on Saturday at the McCoy Tennis Complex. The Tornados won all three doubles matches and five of six singles matches to cruise to the team victory. Ethan McGee and Andrew Ingram won 8-3 in number one doubles, while both blanking their opponents 6-0, 6-0 in number one and two singles.

Tennis Schedules Set for Spring as Men’s and Women’s Teams open Season vs. Berea SaturdayMarch 04, 2021The Brevard College men’s and women’s tennis teams, under the direction of Head Coach Brad Jones and Volunteer Assistant Coach Jimmy Wynn, are primed to begin their 2021 Spring seasons this weekend when the Tornados play host to Berea College at the McCoy Tennis Complex on Saturday, with action beginning at 2 p.m. Live video stream, alongside live score updates, will be provided free-of-charge on the Brevard College Tornados Athletics YouTube channel. The Presidents of the USA South Athletic Conference have agreed to adjust the Conference's policy on spectators attending any outdoor sporting event hosted by a USA South institution regardless of opponent. The amended policy limits spectators to two per participating student-athlete, plus students, faculty and staff of the host institution while abiding with all local and state social distancing and capacity directives. No spectators of visiting teams will be permitted to attend. This adjusted policy went into effect for all events beginning on Friday, February 26th. Spectator Guidelines for Brevard College Outdoor Sports in Spring, 2021March 03, 2021Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Brevard College has established spectator guidelines for Spring 2021 home, outdoor athletic events. The updated guidelines are in accordance with the adjusted outdoor spectator policy announced by the USA South Conference on February 23. 2021. These regulations apply to the sports of baseball, football, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, softball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis at Brevard College.

USA South Announces Men’s Tennis Preseason Coaches PollMarch 02, 2021The coaches of the USA South Conference have announced their annual Men’s Tennis preseason poll, tabbing the Brevard College men’s tennis team to finish in fifth place in the USA South Conference West Division. Each divisional preseason poll only includes votes from coaches within that particular division-only. Head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting. Piedmont College was selected as the preseason favorite on the men’s side, garnering four first-place votes and 34 points to narrowly edge out Covenant College, who took three first-place selections and 33 points in the polling. LaGrange (26 points) and Huntingdon (20 points) followed suit in the third and fourth spots just ahead of the Tornados, who earned 17 points in the poll. Berea and Maryville rounded out the West side of the Conference.

The two institutions will explore if the contests will be able to be played at a later date.

Spectator Policy Announced for Brevard College Outdoor SportsFebruary 05, 2021As a safety measure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only Brevard College students, faculty and staff, as well as essential game personnel, will be permitted at outdoor sporting events during the Spring 2021 semester. No outside spectators will be permitted for any athletics event on the Brevard College campus. For those attending the match from the on-campus community, masks and social distancing are required as well as Brevard College identification.
