USA South Announces Men’s Tennis Preseason Coaches Poll

OFFICIAL USA SOUTH RELEASE LINK

BREVARD, N.C. – The coaches of the USA South Conference have announced their annual Men's Tennis preseason poll, tabbing the Brevard College men's tennis team to finish in fifth place in the USA South Conference West Division.

Each divisional preseason poll only includes votes from coaches within that particular division-only. Head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Piedmont College was selected as the preseason favorite on the men's side, garnering four first-place votes and 34 points to narrowly edge out Covenant College, who took three first-place selections and 33 points in the polling.

LaGrange (26 points) and Huntingdon (20 points) followed suit in the third and fourth spots just ahead of the Tornados, who earned 17 points in the poll. Berea and Maryville rounded out the West side of the Conference.

#Defending Divisional Champion (2019)

The Tornados, led by second-year Head Coach Brad Jones, return four athletes from last year's squad while adding three newcomers to the team. Brevard finished the 2019-20 season with a 3-6 mark just prior to its season halting due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a pair of victories coming at a spring break tournament in Orlando, Florida.

Brevard returns Miles Schafer and JaMarcus Walker to its 2021 squad, as Schafer and Walker each earned a pair of victories for the Tornados in singles action prior to the season cancellation.

BC gears up for its season-opening match this weekend when the Tornados host Berea College on Saturday, March 6 at 2 p.m. at the McCoy Tennis Complex on the campus of Brevard College.

The Presidents of the USA South Athletic Conference have agreed to adjust the Conference's policy on spectators attending any outdoor sporting event hosted by a USA South institution regardless of opponent.

The amended policy limits spectators to two per participating student-athlete, plus students, faculty and staff of the host institution while abiding with all local and state social distancing and capacity directives. No spectators of visiting teams will be permitted to attend. This adjusted policy will go into effect for all events beginning on Friday, February 26th.

All home competitions for the Tornados will be live-streamed, free-of-charge, on the Brevard College Tornados Athletics YouTube channel.
