  • School-Record 129 Tornados Named Academic All-Conference

    A school-record 129 Brevard College student-athletes have been named 2020-21 USA South Academic All-Conference selections. Thirty one of the 128 BC student-athletes also earned “With Distinction” honors for superior academic achievement.

    Brevard College men’s lacrosse received a pair of postseason honors from the USA South Conference, as senior attacker Sam Duffie was selected to the USA South All-West Division team, while junior attacker Evan Francois represented the Tornados on the All-Sportsmanship Team.

  • Three Canceled Conference Contests, One Postponement Announced for Men’s Lacrosse

    In accordance with USA South Conference COVID-19 management protocols, the BC men's lacrosse USA South Conference contests at LaGrange College (April 20), at Huntingdon College (April 21), and vs. Piedmont College (April 24) have been canceled. Additionally, BC’s next scheduled home contest vs. Warren Wilson College, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 17, has been postponed. The two institutions will explore if the contest can be made up at a later date.
  • Men’s Lacrosse Reschedules Contests vs. LaGrange and Warren Wilson

    The Brevard College men’s lacrosse team has rescheduled previously postponed contests vs. LaGrange College and Warren Wilson College. The Tornados will now travel to LaGrange, Georgia on Tuesday, April 20 at 4 p.m. before hosting Warren Wilson on Thursday, April 22 at 4 p.m. Brevard is scheduled to now conclude its regular season on Wednesday, April 28 at 4 p.m. against LaGrange at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

  • Tornados Drop Defensive Battle in Home-Opener

    The Brevard College men’s lacrosse team (0-5, 0-2 USAS) dropped its 2021 home opener, 9-3, to visiting Huntingdon College (4-4, 2-1 USAS) in USA South Conference play on Friday night at Ives-Lemel Family Field. The contest marked the first home game for BC men’s lacrosse since April 20, 2019.

    The Brevard College men’s lacrosse team (0-4, 0-1 USAS) prepares for its first home contest in nearly two seasons, as the Tornados host Huntingdon College (3-4, 1-1 USAS) on Friday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field, with action beginning at 6:30 p.m. BC men’s lacrosse last hosted a contest on April 20, 2019, also vs. Huntingdon.

    In accordance with USA South Conference COVID-19 management protocols, the men's lacrosse contest between Brevard College and LaGrange College, originally scheduled for Sunday at 5 p.m. in LaGrange, Georgia, has been postponed. The institutions have rescheduled the matchup for Tuesday, April 6 at 4 p.m. in LaGrange.
  • Wildcats Hold off Late Tornado Surge, Claim 15-13 Victory

    The Brevard College men’s lacrosse team (0-4) erased a six-goal deficit in a back-and-forth non-conference tilt against the Randolph College Wildcats (1-6), scoring three goals in the final minute to draw within two goals. Randolph staved off the BC comeback attempt, earning a 15-13 victory on Tuesday evening in Lynchburg, Virginia. Senior attacker Sam Duffie paced a Tornado attack that saw four different players get on the scoresheet, as the Columbia, South Carolina native put five goals in alongside a pair of assists for seven points. Evan Francois, a junior attacker from Charlotte, netted a career-high four goals while distributing a career-best two assists for six points, while Nate Ellen enjoyed a career performance with three goals and 17-of-27 faceoffs won, with a game-high 12 ground balls. Freshman Jack Davis put a shot into the back of the nylon with an assist, while sophomore midfielder Trystan Wallace logged the first two assists of his Tornado career. Jacob Hernandez and Nate Stone also distributed the first assists of their collegiate playing careers.

  • Men's Lacrosse Falls in Conference Opener

    The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (0-3, 0-1 USAS) dropped its conference-opening contest, 26-2, to USA South foe Piedmont College (1-4, 1-0 USAS) on Saturday afternoon in Demorest, Georgia.  Senior attacker Sam Duffie scored a goal while snagging four ground balls in addition to junior attacker Evan Francios' two-point outing, as the Charlotte native put his first goal of 2021 in while also dishing out an assist. Devin McCarragher logged 16 saves while also causing a team-high two caused turnovers. 
  • Tornados Trek to Demorest for Conference-Opener

    The Brevard College men’s lacrosse team (0-2) opens its conference schedule on Saturday afternoon when the Tornados travel to Demorest, Georgia to play Piedmont College (0-4) at 12 p.m. The matchup will mark BC’s first since a Friday, March 5 road trip at Averett University.
  • USA South Releases Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll

    The men’s lacrosse coaches of the USA South have released the pre-conference poll for the 2021 season, selecting the Tornados to finish in fourth place in the USA South West Division. Each divisional poll only includes votes from coaches within that particular division-only. Head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting. The 2021 USA South Men's Lacrosse Tournament will take place on campus sites. Due to the ramifications stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament field will be reduced to four total teams. The top-two teams from each division following regular season play will advance to the tournament.
  • Cougar Rally in Fourth Period Pushes Averett Past Brevard

    The Brevard College men’s lacrosse team (0-2) returned to action on Friday afternoon, falling by a final of 13-7 to the Averett University Cougars (4-1) in Danville, Virginia. Six goals in the fourth quarter, including five unanswered scores, helped propel the hosts to the non-conference victory over Brevard. Senior attacker Sam Duffie logged a season-high four goals with an assist for a game-best five points on the afternoon. Freshman midfielder Nate Stone added his first two collegiate scores, while Jack Davis also found the back of the net for the first time in his college career. Goalkeeper Devin McCarragher totaled a new career-high with 16 saves, while Nate Ellen snagged a team-best five ground balls and Trystan Wallace caused a pair of turnovers.
  • MLAX Heads to Danville for Friday Afternoon Matchup

    Following its first competition in nearly two years, the Brevard College men’s lacrosse team (0-1) heads back on the road, as the Tornados head to Danville, Virginia to face fellow USA South member Averett University (3-1) on Friday afternoon, with first faceoff slated for 3 p.m.  Live video and statistics will be available free-of-charge, courtesy of Averett University.  The Presidents of the USA South Athletic Conference have agreed to adjust the Conference's policy on spectators attending any outdoor sporting event hosted by a USA South institution regardless of opponent. The amended policy limits spectators to two per participating student-athlete, plus students, faculty and staff of the host institution while abiding with all local and state social distancing and capacity directives. No spectators of visiting teams will be permitted to attend. This adjusted policy went into effect for all events beginning on Friday, February 26th.
  • Spectator Guidelines for Brevard College Outdoor Sports in Spring, 2021

    Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Brevard College has established spectator guidelines for Spring 2021 home, outdoor athletic events. The updated guidelines are in accordance with the adjusted outdoor spectator policy announced by the USA South Conference on February 23. 2021. These regulations apply to the sports of baseball, football, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, softball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis at Brevard College.
  • Black History Month: Thornton, Morris Set to Face Off as Brevard and Oglethorpe Play in Atlanta Friday

    Brevard College men’s lacrosse Head Coach Darry Thornton will face off against Oglethorpe University’s Head Coach Kyle Morris on Friday when the Tornados travel down to Atlanta to face the Stormy Petrels at 7 p.m. Thornton and Morris are two of only 16 black head men’s lacrosse coaches across all of NCAA DI, DII, and DIII. Furthermore, the two program leaders are two of just 10 black head men’s lacrosse coaches in NCAA Division III. According to the NCAA Demographic Database (as of 2019), black head and assistant coaches make up only three percent of the 1273 coaches at 386 total men’s lacrosse programs
  • Oglethorpe Uses Big Second Half to Push Past Brevard in Atlanta

    The Brevard College men’s lacrosse team (0-1) made its season debut on Friday night in Atlanta, falling to Oglethorpe University (1-2) by a final of 10-3. The Stormy Petrels used seven unanswered second half goals to earn their first victory of the season. Senior attacker Sam Duffie scored three goals to pace BC’s attack on the evening. Duffie, a native of Columbia, South Carolina, struck for a pair of early goals in the first quarter before adding his third score in the second period. Junior attacker Evan Francois dished out an assist to Duffie, while junior midfielder Nate Ellen won nine faceoffs and snagged a team-high six ground balls. Starting goalkeeper Devin McCarragher (0-1) stopped a career-best 15 shots between the pipes for Brevard. Friday’s contest marked the first for BC men’s lacrosse since April 20, 2019 – a period of 678 days between competitions for the Tornados.
  • Tornados MLAX Opens 2021 Campaign in Atlanta on Friday

    The Brevard College men’s lacrosse team begins its 2021 season on Friday when the Tornados travel to Atlanta to face Oglethorpe University (0-2) at 7 p.m. Brevard, led by its first-year staff of Head Coach Darry Thornton, Assistant Coach Lindsey Pound, and Volunteer Assistant Coach Ethan Thomson, makes its long-awaited return to the playing field for its first competition since April 20, 2019.  The Tornados will return key contributors from its 2019 squad, including senior Sam Duffie who took home USA South Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference Second Team honors in 2019 after a 19-goal, 12-assist season. The Columbia, South Carolina native has logged 39 goals and 34 assists over the course of his BC career.

  • Spectator Policy Announced for Brevard College Outdoor Sports

    As a safety measure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only Brevard College students, faculty and staff, as well as essential game personnel, will be permitted at outdoor sporting events during the Spring 2021 semester. No outside spectators will be permitted for any athletics event on the Brevard College campus. For those attending the match from the on-campus community, masks and social distancing are required as well as Brevard College identification.
