BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's lacrosse team begins its 2021 season on Friday when the Tornados travel to Atlanta to face Oglethorpe University (0-2) at 7 p.m.
Brevard, led by its first-year staff of Head Coach Darry Thornton, Assistant Coach Lindsey Pound, and Volunteer Assistant Coach Ethan Thomson, makes its long-awaited return to the playing field for its first competition since April 20, 2019.
The Tornados will return key contributors from its 2019 squad, including senior Sam Duffie who took home USA South Men's Lacrosse All-Conference Second Team honors in 2019 after a 19-goal, 12-assist season. The Columbia, South Carolina native has logged 39 goals and 34 assists over the course of his BC career.
Brevard also returns junior attacker Evan Francois, who started four contests and appeared in 13 games during the 2019 campaign, tallying four goals and a pair of assists. Junior midfielder Nate Ellen won a total of 48 faceoffs, including a single-game career-high 16 faceoffs, in 2019, while junior goalkeeper Devin McCarragher returns to action following a two-win freshman season. The Sharpsburg, Georgia native recorded 24 saves and garnered a USA South Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week award.
The Stormy Petrels come into play on Friday following losses to USA South members Greensboro and Averett. Oglethorpe has been led by Jazz Washington, who has logged three goals and three assists for six points.
Following Friday's action, the Tornados will continue its non-conference slate with a trip to Danville, Virginia to face Averett University on Friday, March 5 at 3 p.m.
