BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (0-5, 0-2 USAS) dropped its 2021 home opener, 9-3, to visiting Huntingdon College (4-4, 2-1 USAS) in USA South Conference play on Friday night at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

The contest marked the first home game for BC men's lacrosse since April 20, 2019.

Devin McCarragher, a junior goalkeeper from Sharpsburg, Georgia, set a new career-high with 18 saves.  McGarragher and the BC defense held Huntingdon to a single digit goal-against output (nine), the lowest total of the year by a Tornado opponent.

Senior attacker Sam Duffie scored two goals to lead the Tornados and increase his team-best season goals total to 15 through five games. Junior Evan Francois also scored for the Tornados in the hard-fought affair.

After winning the opening face-off, Huntingdon scored with just 15 seconds elapsed to start the contest.  Less than two minutes later, Francois made an impressive move to shake a Hawk defender and buried a shot for the equalizer at 1-1.

The Hawks scored two more goals in the opening period, including a made shot with just 40 seconds remaining to go ahead 3-1.

Duffie scored an unassisted goal with 10:09 to play in the second quarter. Meanwhile, McCarragher and the BC defense shutout the Hawks for the entire second period and the first ten minutes-plus of the third quarter - a scoreless stretch of nearly 26 minutes.

Huntingdon snapped its scoreless drought at the 4:55 mark in the third and would go on to outscore the Tornados 6-0 through the end of the contest to take the 9-3 win.

Brevard, behind strong work by junior Nate Ellen, won 11-of-16 face-off opportunities. Huntingdon collected more ground balls (55-47) than BC, while outshooting the host team 59-25.

BC returns to action on Tuesday, April 6 with a conference road trip to LaGrange College in LaGrange, Georgia at 4 p.m.
