BC Opens 2021 Women’s Lacrosse Season with Defeat to Pfeiffer

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's lacrosse team (0-1, 0-1 USAS) opened its 2021 season with a 21-5 defeat to visiting Pfeiffer (1-1, 1-0 USAS) on Wednesday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  The game marked the first contest for the Tornado women's lacrosse program since March 8, 2020.

Sophomore Autumn Kraemer led the Tornados with three goals, to go along with two goals by Savannah Colliver.  Junior midfielder KC Collins recorded two assists.  Sophomore goalkeeper Carlie Henning registered 14 saves, playing the entire 60 minutes in front of the goal for BC.

Pfeiffer was led by Julia Barbato who scored eight goals to go along with six assists.  Starnice Galloway (five goals) and Gabby Bosak (four goals) also help pace the Falcons' attack.

The Falcons opened the scoring just 39 seconds into the contest on an unassisted goal.  Just 33 seconds later, Colliver answered with an equalizer on a free-position shot that found the back of the net for the first goal of the 2021 season.

Pfeiffer added two more goals to pull back ahead, 3-1, before Collins found Kraemer with a well-placed pass that was turned into a successful shot on goal to cut the deficit back to one score.  After two additional Falcon goals, Kraemer struck again at the 16:17 mark to make the score 5-3 midway through the opening half.

However, Pfeiffer would then rattle off a 7-0 run before Colliver snapped the scoring barrage with a free-position shot with less than seven minutes to play in the opening stanza.   Two more Falcon goals gave the visitors a 14-4 lead at the intermission.

In the second half, Pfeiffer pulled away to build a 21-4 lead until Kraemer scored her third goal of the contest with only 1:55 to play in regulation.

The Falcons outshot the Tornados 41-10, while winning 19 of 28 draw controls.  The Falcons were able to convert on 7-of-15 free-position shots, while BC was able to convert on two of three such opportunities.

Brevard will return to action on Saturday, March 20 vs. Piedmont at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  The Tornados and Falcons will then match up again on Wednesday, March 24 in Misenheimer, North Carolina.
