Tornados Kick Off 2021 at CIU Rams Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Brevard College track & field team opened its 2021 season on Saturday afternoon, taking part in the CIU Rams Invitational hosted by Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina. 
 
Freshman George Wells paced BC's distance team with a 15th-place finish in the Men's 1500-meter dash with a time of 4:11.70, while Wells and teammate Devon Brodmyer each finished top-30 in a highly crowded men's 800-meter dash field. Wells logged a 21st-place finish with a 2"01.30, while Brodmyer earned a 28th-place spot at 2:04.24. 
 
Kelia Oliver, a former USA South Women's Track & Field Rookie of the Week selection during the 2020 season, finished top-20 in both the Women's Shot Put and Discus events. Oliver finished with a 3.43m in Shot Put while registering a 29.03 in Discus. 
 
Senior thrower Gabriel Covington sneaked into the top-25 in the Men's Shot Put with a 9.46m attempt, while Evan McAdams led the Tornados in the Men's Discus event in a 34th-place finish at 28.49m. 
 
The Tornados are scheduled to take part in a local event next weekend, traveling up to Montreat, North Carolina to take part in the Montreat Invitational hosted by Montreat College on Friday and Saturday, March 26-27.
