Tornados Host Lions in First Round of USA South West Division Tournament

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's soccer team (6-1-1) is set for its first appearance in the USA South Conference postseason this Tuesday, as the Tornados host Piedmont College at Ives-Lemel Family Field at 7 p.m. in the First Round of the USA South West Division Tournament.

Tuesday's contest marks the first conference-level postseason appearance for BC women's soccer since the 2009 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament. BC's last overall postseason appearance in women's soccer came in 2018 when the Tornados were selected to the ECAC DIII Women's Soccer Championship.

Live video and statistics of the first-round tournament match will be made available, free-of-charge, on youtube.com/BrevardCollegeTornados and bctornados.com.

The Presidents of the USA South Athletic Conference have agreed to adjust the Conference's policy on spectators attending any outdoor sporting event hosted by a USA South institution regardless of opponent.

The amended policy limits spectators to two per participating student-athlete, plus students, faculty and staff of the host institution while abiding with all local and state social distancing and capacity directives. No spectators of visiting teams will be permitted to attend. This adjusted policy went into effect for all events beginning on Friday, February 26th.

BC is coming off a 2-0 conference win against LaGrange College. Both goals came from sophomore Ashley Royster who scored off an assist from senior Brenna Innis and freshman Taylor Richardson.

Piedmont College (7-6-1) comes into play on Tuesday coming off a 1-1 double-overtime draw against USA South Conference foe Covenant College in PC's regular-season finale.

Currently riding an NCAA-era program record six-match unbeaten streak that includes five USA South Conference wins while also having clinched a spot in the Spring 2021 USA South Women's Soccer West Division Tournament, the Brevard College women's soccer team ranks near or at the top of several national individual and team statistical categories in the Spring 2021 season

Senior goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas, a native of Murrieta, California, is tied for the national lead with six shutouts as of March 25, as Rojas has anchored the best statistical defense in Brevard's NCAA era. The veteran shot-stopper helps anchor a back-line that features Lena Hatter, Emma White, Abbie Worsencroft, and Autumn Wright as its primary starters.

Rojas has tallied a single-season record six shutouts in just eight matches played, tying the national lead with the University of Puget Sound's Chaylea Tom.

Rojas, who holds career NCAA-era records at Brevard for wins, save percentage, goals-against-average, and shutouts, has earned a pair of USA South Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors for her work in goal this season. Playing in all 720 minutes of competition this season for the Tornados, Rojas places herself top-10 in the country in minutes played.

The winner of Tuesday's matchup will move on to the USA South Women's Soccer West Division Championship, hosted by top-seeded Maryville College on Saturday, April 10 in Maryville, Tennessee.
