Brevard Concludes Historic Regular Season with Defeat at Methodist; Postseason Begins Monday

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Brevard College women's lacrosse team (11-5, 5-4 USA South) concluded its most successful season in program history with a 20-6 setback to host Methodist (10-8, 7-3 USA South) on Saturday in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

The Tornados earned the fifth seed in the USA South Conference postseason tournament and will face fourth-seeded Methodist again in a rematch on Monday at 3 p.m. in the tourney's first round.

On Saturday in the regular-season finale, sophomore goalkeeper Lex MacLauchlin (11-5) played all 60 minutes in goal on a busy day where she faced 34 shots, registering 14 saves.

Senior Autumn Kraemer and freshman Paige Kneubuhler each scored two goals to lead BC offensively.  Senior Parker Moore and sophomore Emily Denaga each added a goal as well.  Denaga and freshman Xan Hill also each registered an assist.

Methodist was led by Mikayla Ramos with five goals and Keegan Foyles who scored four goals.  Tia Marlinghaus scored three goals as well to help lead the Monarch offensive charge.

Methodist outshot BC 38-15 in the contest, including a 24-8 shot advantage in the first half.  The Monarchs won 20 of the game's 30 draw controls and also won the battle of ground balls 20-9.

Methodist ran out to a 5-0 lead in the contest until Denaga hit a free-position shot with just under six minutes to play in the opening quarter for BC's first goal.  Trailing 8-1, Kramer scored late in the first period to cut the deficit to six goals.  However, the Monarchs would pull away again to take a 17-4 lead into halftime.

The two teams played even in the second half, each scoring two goals.  However, the big lead provided Methodist with a large cushion and a running clock as the hosts cruised to the victory in the regular-season finale.

The 2023 Brevard College women's lacrosse team, under the direction of Head Coach Kristin Rosato and Assistant Coach/Offensive Coordinator Roya Tahmassebi, has shattered program records in wins, goals, assists, and points in a season along with a multitude of individual and single-game records.

On Monday, the Tornados will appear in the USA South Conference Tournament with the Brevard at Methodist First Round game taking place on Monday at 3 p.m. in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  The winner of the Brevard-Methodist matchup will play the winner of the #1 Meredith vs. #8 N.C. Wesleyan game in the Semifinals on Friday, May 5.
