Women’s Lacrosse Honors Senior Class on Saturday

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's lacrosse team (11-4, 5-3 USA South) honored its seven-member senior class on Senior Day against Southern Virginia University (9-5, 6-1 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

SVU pulled away from Brevard in the Conference matchup, earning a 20-6 victory over the Tornados.

BC honored its senior class of Meredith Brown, Ashton Cashwell, Savannah Colliver, Autumn Kraemer, Josh Mitchell, Parker Moore, and Grace Vaught in a special pre-game ceremony.

Sophomore midfielder Emily Denaga led all Tornados with four points (two goals, two assists) with two draw controls won. Kraemer added a pair of goals while Paige Kneubuhler and Moore also got on the scoresheet. Reigning USA South Rookie of the Week Xan Hill dished out an assist.

Lex MacLauchlin (11-4) made 14 saves in the contest. Kneubuhler led all Tornado defenders with four caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Four Knights scored multiple goals in the contest, led by Kiah Baisden with six goals.

SVU opened the game on a 7-0 run before both sides traded runs to give the Knights a 9-2 lead after the first quarter. The visitors scored five goals to BC's two as the Knights took a 10-goal lead into the locker rooms, 14-4.

SVU outscored Brevard 3-0 in the third period. Denaga found the back of the net twice in the fourth quarter, but the Knights were well on their way to wrapping the conference win up, 20-6.

Remarkably, BC scored six goals on just seven shot attempts in the game. SVU held a dominant 48-7 shooting edge and grabbed 30 ground balls to BC's 20. Two areas the Knights were able to succeed in were draw controls (25-4) and defense on clears, as SVU held BC to 13-for-29 on clears.

Brevard closes out the regular season next Saturday, April 29 at 12 p.m. in Fayetteville, North Carolina vs. Methodist University in a contest that will decide who will host the first round of the 2023 USA South Women's Lacrosse Tournament four-five seed matchup.
