Tornados Continue Record-Breaking Season with Win over Greensboro

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's lacrosse team (10-2, 4-1 USA South) defeated Greensboro College (0-7, 0-5 USASS) by a score of 24-4 in a USA South Conference matchup on Monday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  With the win, BC won 10 games for the first time in program history while extending its program-record win streak to six straight victories. 

The 24 goals scored marked a season-high for the Tornados who have now scored 20 or more goals in four straight games, outscoring opponents 90-34 in the last four contests.   Brevard continued its success at Ives-Lemel Family Field as well, improving its record in home games to 6-1 on the season.

Senior attacked Parker Moore, who last time out scored a single-game program record 11 goals in a win over Warren Wilson, scored three goals to eclipse the 100-career goal mark in her Brevard career.  The native of Raleigh, North Carolina has now scored 101 career goals in a Tornado uniform, including a career-best 55 goals this season.

Sophomore Emily Denaga led all players with four goals and three assists.  Freshman Paige Kneubuhler and senior Autumn Kraemer both scored four goals to go along with an assist as well.  Freshman Xan Hill scored three goals and dished out two assists.

Sophomore defenders Cassidy Hutto and Alyse Moore scored their first career goals in the win, while senior defender Ashton Cashwell found the back of the net as well for her first goal this season.  Seniors Savannah Colliver and Grace Vaught, along with freshman Nicole Volk each scored a goal as well.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lex MacLauchlin (10-2) earned her program-record 10th win in front of the net for the Tornados, registering two saves.

Greensboro was led offensively by Rosanna Espinosa-Ponce who scored three goals.  Carly Watson played the entire contest in goal for the Pride, registering nine saves.

After three minutes of scoreless action, BC was first to find the back of the net on a finish by a Denaga, assisted by Moore.  Just one minute later, Moore scored followed by Kneubuhler's first goal of the evening.  The Tornados then opened up a 7-1 lead with a second goal by Denaga, assisted by Kraemer. 

With just under two minutes left in the first period, Moore scored on a free-position shot to give the senior her 100th career goal in a Tornado uniform.  Kraemer then followed with a goal, her third of the period, to give BC an 11-3 lead at the end of the first.

Brevard went on to outscore the Pride 5-1 in the second period to take a 16-4 advantage into the break.  The BC defense shut out Greensboro for the entirety of the second half as the Tornados scored four goals in both the third and fourth periods to put away the victory.

In the fourth period, Hutto who moved upfield to an attacking position, scored her first career goal off an assist by Denaga.  Moore then scored her first career goal on a free-position shot with just over eight minutes to play.  Cashwell capped off the scoring with a goal, off an assist by Hill, to notch her first goal of the season and the third goal of her career.

Brevard will be back in action on Saturday at 3 p.m. with a conference road match at William Peace University.  BC's next home game is scheduled for Wednesday, April 19 vs. Piedmont University at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
