Tornados Dominate Battling Bishops; Win Streak Reaches Program-Record Four Games

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's lacrosse team (8-2, 3-1 USA South) won its program-record fourth game in a row as the Tornados cruised to an 18-goal triumph, 20-2, over NC Wesleyan University (2-6, 1-2 USAS) on a windy Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

The victory gives the Tornados its fourth-consecutive victory, which is the longest win streak in program history. Brevard notched its eighth win of the season in 10 games, continuing its program-record start to the season as the Tornados are just a win away from tying the 2015 squad for most single-season victories.

Senior attacker Parker Moore led the way for the Tornados with a nine-point performance scoring seven goals with two assists for a game-high nine points. Freshman attacker/midfielder Xan Hill turned in a career performance, as the Fort Mill, South Carolina native tallied a career-high eight points on five goals and three assists while also grabbing three ground balls and causing two turnovers.

Fellow freshman attacker/midfielder Paige Kneubuhler finished with three goals and two assists for five points while snagging a team-high nine ground balls, winning three draw controls, and forcing a game-high four caused turnovers. Sophomore midfielder Emily Denaga added three goals and an assist for four points and won 13 of BC's 16 draw controls, marking the fourth time this season that the Buford, Georgia native has won double-digit draw controls in a single game. Savannah Colliver (one goal, one assist) and Autumn Kraemer (one goal) also got on the scoresheet while senior attacker Grace Vaught dished out an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Lex MacLauchlin (8-2) made a pair of saves while limiting the shorthanded Battling Bishop offense to just two goals in the contest.

The two sides traded a pair of goals to open the contest up before Brevard ended the first quarter on a 3-0 scoring run to take a 4-1 advantage. The contest was turned on its head in the second period of action, as the Tornados outscored NC Wesleyan by a total of 9-1 to take a controlling 13-2 edge into the locker rooms.

From there, Brevard was able to shut out the Battling Bishops for the remainder of the contest while scoring seven unanswered goals in the second half to earn an impressive 20-2 conference victory at home.

BC held a 28-14 ground ball edge, won 16 of 24 draw controls, forced 24 Battling Bishop turnovers, and outshot the visitors by a dominant 38-7 margin. The Tornados went 10-for-11 on clear attempts and converted 4-of-7 of its free-position shots.

Brevard returns to action next Friday, April 7 with a non-conference trip to nearby Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, North Carolina for the annual "Ridge Rivalry" contest between the two women's lacrosse programs, with start time slated for 4 p.m.
