Strong Second Half Gives Tornados Pivotal Conference Win, 23-17

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Brevard College women's lacrosse team (7-2, 2-1 USA South) outscored Pfeiffer University (1-8, 1-2 USAS) 12-4 in the second half to come back and defeat the Falcons 23-17 in a midweek USA South Conference matchup at N.E. Lefko Field in Misenheimer, North Carolina.

The second-half rally from the Tornados included an 8-2 scoring advantage in the third period of play.

Senior attacker Parker Moore logged a game-high 11 points on six goals and five assists while also winning six draw controls for the Tornados. Fellow senior attacker Autumn Kraemer surpassed the 100-point mark for her career with a five-goal, one-assist performance. Freshman attacker/midfielder Paige Kneubuhler added four goals and two assists with six ground balls and five caused turnovers, while Emily Denaga scored four goals, won six draw controls, and caused four turnovers.

Xan Hill, a freshman attacker/midfielder from Fort Mill, South Carolina, posted a career-best four-point performance with three goals and an assist. On the defensive end, Grace Blanton (four caused turnovers) and Cassidy Hutto (three caused turnovers) anchored the back-line, while Lex MacLauchlin tallied 11 saves.

Pfeiffer's Annalise Robinson led the Falcon offense with 10 points on nine goals and an assist while Julia Barbato and Chloe Johnson each scored three goals apiece.

Pfeiffer held a slim 41-38 shooting edge and won the battle of draw controls, 26-17. Brevard went 21-for-27 on clear attempts and 12-for-17 on free-position shots, surging past Pfeiffer's 1-for-11 effort. The Tornados also forced Pfeiffer into 25 total turnovers.

The first quarter saw a flurry of offense early as the two sides combined for seven goals in under five minutes of action with Pfeiffer holding a 4-3 margin. Moore and Denaga scored a pair of goals down the stretch as the score was tied 6-6 after one-quarter of play.

The second quarter proved to be yet another high-scoring stanza as Pfeiffer found the back of the net seven times to BC's five goals to hold a 13-11 edge at the halftime break.

Brevard came out of the gates in the third quarter firing as the Tornados scored five of the first six goals in the third period. Up by one goal as the third period winded down, Moore scored a pair of goals and Hill added one as the Tornados opened up a four-goal lead with one-quarter of action left.

Pfeiffer's Robinson scored two goals in the first four minutes to draw the Falcons within two goals, but Brevard locked the contest in with four goals over the final 11 minutes of play while also shutting out the Falcons in that same span.

With the victory, the Tornados have won the program's most single-season wins since the 2016 season. The Tornados return to play this Saturday for another conference bout, this time against NC Wesleyan at Ives-Lemel Family Field with first draw at 1 p.m.
