Tornados Win First USA South Road Game of 2023

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In the team's first road conference game of the season, the Brevard College Women's Lacrosse team (5-2, 1-1 USAS) defeated Huntingdon (1-3, 0-1 USAS) 16-6 on Saturday afternoon in Montgomery, Alabama.

Senior attacker Parker Moore led the Tornados on the offensive attack with a game-high five goals.  It marked the third time this season that Moore has scored five or more goals in a contest.

In addition to Moore's output, three different Tornados scored three games apiece to add to the offensive success.  Sophomore Emily Denaga delivered her third multi-goal game of the season with three goals.  Senior Autumn Kraemer, who last week won IWLCA National Co-Offensive Player of the Week, added three more goals to her season total as well.  Also, freshman Paige Kneubuhler recorded three scores to give the reigning USA South Rookie of the Week 11 goals in the last three games.  Goals from Savannah Colliver and Xan Hill rounded out the scoring for Brevard.

Denaga led all players with three assists, while Moore, Hill, Kneubuhler, and Colliver also set up Tornado goals with assists.  Denaga also recorded a game-high eight ground balls, while Hill registered a career-best six ground balls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lex MacLauchlin played all 60 minutes, recording seven saves to earn her fifth win of the season.  MacLauchlin and the BC defense ultimately held the Hawks to just six goals on 17 shots to give the offense a cushion to put together the ultimate 10-goal differential.

Huntingdon scored the game's first goal, just 36 seconds into the contest, to give the Hawks their only lead of the afternoon.  BC then went on a torrid scoring run with four consecutive goals with a pair of scores coming from both Kneubuhler and Denega.  The Hawks scored again to cut the lead to 4-2, but Kraemer answered right back with her first goal of the day off an assist from Hill.  Denaga then scored again in the period's final minute to stretch the lead to 6-2 heading into the second.

Kraemer delivered again to open the second quarter scoring off an assist by Kneubuhler.  Moore then scored twice on free position shots to go along with another goal by Kraemer. A third goal on a free position shot gave BC its 11th goal of the contest to take an 11-4 lead into halftime.

Hill scored the first goal of the second half on an assist by Colliver to give BC a 12-4 lead.  Brevard continued to outscore the Hawks in the period, taking a 15-5 lead into the final stanza.  The two teams scored a total of just two goals in the final period as BC took the 16-6 road conference victory.

For the contest, BC outshot HC 35-17, while winning the ground-ball category 25-19.  Brevard also won 19 of the game's 25 draw controls to further aid in the road win.

Brevard returns to action with a home non-conference game on Wednesday vs. Ferrum at 4 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
