Kneubuhler Logs Hat Trick; Brevard Drops Conference Opener

BREVARD, N.C. - Freshman attacker/midfielder and reigning USA South Conference Rookie of the Week Paige Kneubuhler tallied a hat trick with three goals, but the Brevard College women's lacrosse team (4-2, 0-1 USA South) fell 20-4 to reigning USA South champion Meredith College (4-2, 1-0 USAS) on Tuesday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field. 

Kneubuhler tallied three goals while fellow freshman Xan Hill also found the back of the net. Goalkeeper Lex MacLauchlin (4-2) anchored the defense with 10 saves. Sophomore midfielder Emily Denaga won six draw controls for the Tornados. 

Meredith's Jessica Dowdy paced the Avenging Angel offense with four goals and four assists for eight points. Tori Witmer added four goals and two assists, while Kylie Phillips and Lauryn Turner logged five points each.

The visitors tallied 35 shot attempts to BC's 13, while the Tornados made 10 saves compared to Meredith's five. BC was able to convert 3-of-8 free-position attempts. 

The Tornados will look to bounce back as Brevard travels to Montgomery, Alabama for a Conference matchup against Huntingdon College on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. CT.
