Women’s Lacrosse Dominates Spalding, 19-1 at Home

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's lacrosse team (2-0) remained unbeaten on the young season, outmatching Spalding University (0-1) 19-1 on a rainy Friday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

The Tornados put in 19 goals in the contest, all coming man-up against the short-handed Eagles of Spalding University in the two program's first all-time meeting between each other.

Sophomore midfielder Emily Denaga logged her second double-digit draw control outing in the early goings of the season, as she tallied 10 draw controls to go along with a team-best nine points on five goals and four assists. The Buford, Georgia native won 15 draw controls in the Tornados' 19-18 season-opening win vs. Randolph. All five of Denaga's shot attempts found the back of the net in the game.

Senior attacker Parker Moore, who was recently named IWLCA DIII National Co-Offensive Player of the Week, scored five goals with two assists for seven points in addition to a team-high eight ground balls and five draw controls. Freshman attacker Xan Hill scored a career-best four goals and notched an assist, while fellow freshman attacker Paige Kneubuhler added two goals and two assists with four ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Senior captain Savannah Colliver scored twice with an assist as well.

BC dominated in every facet of the contest, converting all eight of its clear attempts while forcing 25 Spalding turnovers. Brevard won 20 of the game's 23 draw controls, took 40 shot attempts, and went 7-for-16 on free position shots.

Colliver got the scoring going for BC as the Tornado scored five goals in the first five minutes of action with Hill and Kneubuhler scoring two goals apiece as well. Hill added her third goal of the afternoon while Moore scored three consecutive goals to end the first quarter as BC built a dominant 9-0 margin.

Denaga opened the second quarter with her first goal of the contest before Spalding got in the score column as Gracie Bale put in a Mahalia Clemente assist, cutting the deficit to 10-1. However, the Tornados would not allow another goal from that point on, as Brevard scored nine unanswered goals in the last two and a half quarters of play to cruise to a 19-1 win.

Brevard will return to action next weekend as the Tornados kick off their Spring Break trip on Saturday, March 4 at 2 p.m. against former USA South foe Averett University in Danville, Virginia.
