BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados Women's Lacrosse Team (3-3, 0-1 USAS) opened its 2019 USA South Conference slate at Ives-Lemel Field on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Pfeiffer Falcons (2-0, 1-0 USAS) by a final score of 16-4.

Pfeiffer earned its second win of the season, while Brevard dropped its third-straight contest.

Hannah Scharf, Jezika Gunter, Hunter Denney, and Micaiah Vacchiano each tallied a goal in Saturday's contest, while Vacchiano added an assist. One of those goals was a free position attempt.

Katherine Collins (3-3) made eight saves on 24 shots faced, bringing her season total in 2019 to 44.

Collins and Scharf both led their team with six ground balls.

Pfeiffer was paced in the attack by Meagan Bourque (five goals) and Starnice Galloway (four goals), while Startraya Galloway added three to the Falcons' ledger.

Falcons' goalkeeper Sam Hanlon (2-0) turned away five Brevard shots on nine shots faced.

Vacchiano gained BC an early 1-0 advantage with 26:52 left in the first half. Pfeiffer would knot the score up at the 23:49 mark, the start of a six-goal run for the Falcons that lasted until Denney scored with 12:07 left, as Pfeiffer held a 6-2 lead.

BC cut the margin to three goals with its second-straight goal when Gunter put a Vacchiano pass into the back of the net, cutting Pfeiffer's lead to 6-3 with 10:46 left in the first half.

However, the Falcons closed out the first stanza with four-straight goals, two of which were on the power play to take a 10-3 advantage into the break.

Scharf gave the Tornados a boost just 36 seconds into the second half, as Brevard drew closer, down 10-4.

The Falcons would take control from there, closing the game with six unanswered goals over the final 29 minute of action, blanking the Tornados from that point on. In turn, Pfeiffer secured it's first USA South victory of the season, 16-4.

Pfeiffer outshot Brevard 36-16 on the afternoon, including a 26-9 shots-on-goal advantage. Pfeiffer snagged four more ground balls than Brevard (33-29) while committing 10 fewer turnovers.

Brevard went 1-for-8 on free position shots compared to Pfeiffer, who converted 6-of-14.

The Tornados will continue USA South Conference play tomorrow as they host Salem College (1-3, 0-1 USAS) at 1 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Field.
