Women’s Basketball Set for Play4Kay Game on Wednesday

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's basketball team (8-14, 5-10 USAS) will join countless other schools across the nation by hosting its annual Play4Kay game on Wednesday against Piedmont College (15-8, 11-3 USAS) at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Play4Kay initiative honors Coach Kay Yow and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The vision for Play4Kay came directly from Coach Kay Yow. Through Play4Kay, she saw a vision to bring communities together and honor survivors in the fight against all cancers affecting women. It was basically a simple idea — take a game in your schedule and use it to fundraise for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. As Play4Kay evolved, the mechanisms for fundraising have expanded and so have the initiatives. Schools nationwide are finding ways to "Play4Kay" on and off the basketball court. In support of the Play4Kay initiative, pink BC Play4Kay t-shirts will be available for purchase at the ticket gate before Wednesday's matchup.

The Tornados return home following a successful four-game road swing that saw the Tornados collect three victories. Brevard claimed a 65-54 triumph over LaGrange College before taking a 54-39 decision in Greenville, South Carolina against Bob Jones University. BC visited Decatur, Georgia to earn a 51-41 win against USA South foe Agnes Scott College, completing the Tornados' three-game win streak.

Wednesday's matchup marks the final USA South Conference contest for the Tornados in the 2019-20 season.

The Lions of Piedmont come into Wednesday's matchup riding a seven-game win streak. Piedmont most recently handed previously-unbeaten Berea College its first loss in USA South play, defeating the Mountaineers 62-50 in Berea, Kentucky on Saturday, February 8.

Following Wednesday's game, Brevard will close its 2019-20 campaign on Saturday, February 15 at home against Pfeiffer University at 2 p.m. The matchup will serve as BC's Senior Day, where the Tornados will honor their two seniors – Krysta Davis and Elaina Perez.

Saturday's contest will also mark Brevard's #BlockOutCancer game, as the Tornados women's basketball squad partners up with all USA South schools in support of Greensboro College Head Coach Randy Tuggle in his fight against Pancreatic Cancer. Both teams will join up pre-game in #BlockOutCancer t-shirts to show that they are #TuggleStrong. For more information about the USA South's #BlockOutCancer initiative, please click here.
