Women’s Basketball Looks to Pick Up Road Victory at Covenant

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados Women's Basketball team (8-9, 4-7 USAS) will look to improve to the .500 mark as it travels to Lookout Mountain, Ga. for a mid-week tilt against the Covenant College Scots (5-13, 3-7 USAS) on Wednesday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Brevard currently sits half of a game above Covenant in the USA South West Division standings at 4-7, which places Brevard in sixth place.

The contest comes on the heels of Brevard's dominant 72-51 victory at home over LaGrange last Saturday. Senior guard Annalee Bollinger led all scorers with 26 points and four 3-pointers, while junior forward Destiny Williams added 15 points. Freshman center Avery Lockwood recorded her eighth double-digit rebounding total of 2018-19, grabbing 13 boards in the victory.

Bollinger will look to build on her performance last Saturday. The Hickory, N.C. native is currently averaging the second-most 3-pointers made per game in the USA South (2.4), while her team has hit the third-most 3-pointers overall (136).

Lockwood's breakout freshman campaign on the glass continues as she currently sits sixth overall in the USA South in rebounds-per-game (8.6), and third in rebounds-per-40 minutes (16.4). Lockwood propelled herself into the BC NCAA-era record books last week, as her 147 rebounds in 2018-19 are 8th-most in BC single-season history.

Covenant brings the fourth-most efficient shooting offense into play on Wednesday, as the Scots average 39.2% shooting from the field.

Brevard still sits atop the USA South in fewest turnovers-per-game (15), while Covenant sits on the other end of the spectrum (22.2 turnovers-per-game, 16th).

After the Tornados brief trip to Georgia, they return home to face Agnes Scott (1-20, 1-11 USAS) in a rematch this Saturday at the Boshamer Gymnasium. The two sides met back on December 8, 2018, in Decatur, Ga., with the Tornados taking a 52-41 decision. Tip-off this Saturday is slated for 2 p.m.
