Softball Resumes Conference Play in Demorest Thursday

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College softball team (3-5, 2-0 USAS) continues its conference schedule on Thursday when the Tornados take on Piedmont College (5-7) for a USA South doubleheader set for 12 and 2 p.m.

The Presidents of the USA South Athletic Conference have agreed to adjust the Conference's policy on spectators attending any outdoor sporting event hosted by a USA South institution regardless of opponent.

The amended policy limits spectators to two per participating student-athlete, plus students, faculty and staff of the host institution while abiding with all local and state social distancing and capacity directives. No spectators of visiting teams will be permitted to attend. This adjusted policy went into effect for all events beginning on Friday, February 26th.

BC returns to the softball diamond for the first time since a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday, March 20-21, when the Tornados swept a conference doubleheader and fell in a non-conference twin bill to Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia.

In the doubleheader sweep, the Tornados used a complete-game shutout from senior pitcher Micayla McCoy to earn the tight, 1-0 victory before coming back from an early deficit in game two, using a three-run third inning to edge the Wolves, 3-2.

McCoy, a senior from Cullowhee, North Carolina, pitched the 17th complete game of her Tornado career in game number one, striking out four batters en route to the shutout victory. McCoy also picked up a hit and stole a base in the game, while freshman Autumn Lollis went 2-for-3 at the dish to lead BC's offense. Taylor Hannah logged a hit for BC, while Makenzie Rice came around to score Brevard's only run of the contest in the top of the fifth frame.

In the second contest, BC's senior tandem of Brittany Franks and Emily White led the way for the Tornados in the backend of the twin billing. Franks went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI's, while Emily White added a 2-for-3 day with an RBI-double and a run scored. Kaitlynn Farmer got the start in the circle for the Tornados, going the distance for the first time in her BC career. Farmer let up seven hits and a pair of runs while striking out a batter.

White continues to pace the Tornado offense with a .417 batting average, sporting a pair of homers and eight RBI's alongside 10 hits. McCoy leads all Tornado pitchers with 17 strikeouts in 25 innings of work this season.

Piedmont is most recently coming off a close doubleheader sweep at the hands of Emory University on March 20.

BC is scheduled to return back home on Wednesday, April 7 for a USA South doubleheader against Covenant College, scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.
