BREVARD, N.C. - Hosting its fourth home game in the last three days, the Brevard College baseball team (2-15) fell in a non-conference test, 13-3, to ODAC member-institute Hampden-Sydney (11-3) on Monday afternoon at Gil Coan Field.

The Tornados battled back from a 3-0 hole, cutting the Tiger lead to a 3-2 margin before Hampden-Sydney pulled away, scoring 11 out of the next 12 runs to claim the 13-3 triumph.

Freshman outfielder Zach Allison had a career day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Senior infielder Ryan Roon recorded an RBI double as part of a 2-for-4 effort that included two RBI's and a run. Fellow senior Donny Carsillo hit an RBI double to score a baserunner.

Bryce Bowers (0-2) got the starting nod for the Tornado defense, ending up with 4.2 innings pitched, eight hits, and six earned runs surrendered.

Kieran Conway ended up earning the victory for Hampden-Sydney, coming in relief to throw 3.1 innings of three-hit, one-run ball.

HSC's Ryan Clawson and Chase Counts each hit homers, while the Tigers' offense exploded for runs throughout the late stages of the contest. The Tigers benefited from a total of five multi-hit performances that helped Hampden-Sydney score 13 runs on 17 hits.

Clawson's two-run homer opened the scoring up in the top of the first inning, while a Mark Evans RBI single extended HSC's lead to a three-run margin in inning number two.

Back-to-back RBI doubles from Roon and Carsillo cut the Tiger lead to a single run, 3-2, in the bottom of the second frame. BC had an opportunity to add on to its lead with runners on second and third base, but the threat was thwarted after a flyout.

The Tigers put up a single run in the fourth inning before striking for a pair of scores in the fifth frame to extend their advantage to a 6-2 margin. BC's Joc Pledger logged his first career hit in the bottom of the fourth inning.

With Zach Allison on second base, Roon slapped an RBI single to center field in the bottom of the fifth inning, cutting the HSC advantage to a three-run, 6-3 margin.

From there, however, the Tigers closed out the game by scoring a pair of runs in the sixth inning, followed by a three-spot in the eighth frame and two runs in the ninth to cruise to the victory, 13-3.

The Tornados will be back in action, closing out their five-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon by welcoming Emory & Henry College (5-8) to Gil Coan Field for a 3 p.m. first-pitch time.
