BREVARD, N.C. - Maryville College (11-5, 5-3 USAS) used stellar pitching in game one and an offensive surge in the second game to earn a doubleheader sweep over the Brevard College baseball team (2-13, 1-7 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at Gil Coan Field.

Beau Shealy tacked on BC's lone run in the first game with an RBI triple, while five different Brevard batters drove in runs in the second matchup. Daiquon Davenport led the way with a 2-for-4 performance, scoring a pair of runs while driving in two RBI's as well. Shealy and Holden Lanier also recorded a pair of RBI's each, while JJ Wilkes and Jack Atkinson recorded extra-base hits in game two.

MC's Jordan Davis (3-1) kept the Tornado offense at bay for a majority of the first game, throwing a complete game allowing just a run on five hits, striking out 12 BC batters. The Scots used an offensive explosion that included 17 run, 25 hits, and seven players with multi-hit performances to run past the Tornados in the back end of the doubleheader.

GAME ONE: MARYVILLE 6, BREVARD 1

Senior right-handed pitcher Bryce Foster (0-3) made the start in his hometown on Saturday afternoon, putting together 3.2 innings of five-hit, three-run work while fanning a pair of batters. Foster worked effectively through his first three innings before letting up a trio of runs to Maryville in the top half of the fourth inning.

Junior right-handed pitcher Huntley Hacker lasted for 3.1 innings, giving up just two hits and one earned run in his outing. Fellow junior righty Jakob Dennis pitched a pair of scoreless innings, striking out two Scots in the process.

Foster worked around a one-out single in the first inning to send the Tornado offense to the plate in the 0-0 tie. Maryville's Davis fanned two batters in the bottom of the frame, leaving the contest scoreless through the first inning.

A two-out Walke was erased thanks to a pick-off that went down 1-3-6, as the Tornados caught Maryville's runner leaning. Christian Ezzell notched BC's first hit of the afternoon in the bottom half of the second inning before a strikeout ended the Tornado threat.

Foster worked an efficient third frame, sitting the Scots down in order. Atkinson hit a bunt single to lead off the bottom of the third inning - and a Zach Wolfe sacrifice bunt advanced the sophomore to second base - however, back-to-back outs ended BC's scoring opportunity, leaving the score deadlocked at 0-0 through three innings.

Maryville used four hits in the top of the fourth to score a trio of runs that chased Foster out of the ballgame. Hacker came in and ended the scoring stretch, however, the Scots established their 3-0 advantage.

The Scots used a one-out triple and cashed it in to extend their lead to a 4-0 margin, but a double play by the Tornados on the scoring play limited the damage to just the lone run. Brevard was retired in order in the bottom half of the fifth frame.

Hacker worked a clean top of the sixth before the Tornado offense returned to the plate. Donny Carsillo drew a leadoff walk, and Zachary Allison singles to put runners on first and second base with nobody out in the inning. MC's Davis did not waver, as a pair of strikeouts and a fielder's choice ended BC's scoring chance, leaving the score at 4-0 in favor of the visiting Scots.

Hacker nearly made it out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh frame, but a throwing error cost the Tornados a pair of unearned runs that pushed Maryville up, 6-0. Davis followed suit by retiring the Tornado offense in order.

Dennis came into the game and sat down the Scots in order. The Tornados got a baserunner in the bottom of the eighth frame on a single, but the threat was quickly erased after the runner was caught stealing.

Trailing 6-0 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Wilkes drew a one-out walk that was followed by an RBI triple from Shealy that cut into Maryville's lead. A strikeout and pop out ended game one, giving the Scots the victory

GAME TWO: MARYVILLE 17, BREVARD 9

Both sides traded scoreless first frame, with Maryville stranding a pair of baserunners before the Scots' Will Hubbell hit a solo home run of BC's Ben Melton in the top of the second inning to give the Scots a lead that it would not relinquish throughout game two.

Maryville explores for an eight-run third inning, scoring on six hits and an error to chase Melton out of the game for the Tornados. The Scots established a 9-0 lead early in the second contest of the afternoon. Looking to respond, an Atkinson one-out double was erased in the bottom of the third frame, leaving the score in favor of the visitors.

BC began to claw its way back, stringing together a big inning of its own with six runs on four hits and an error to cut the deficit to a three-run margin, 9-6.

Maryville used a groundout double play to plate its 10th run of the matchup before the Tornados pushed across a trio of runs in the bottom of the fifth to bring Brevard within just a run, 10-9.

Those runs proved all that the Tornados could muster the rest of the way, as the Scots posted seven more runs in the final four frames to cruise to the 17-9 victory. Meanwhile, MC's Anthony Rodriguez picked up the save following four innings of one-hit work to finish the contest up.

Brevard's series-finale against Maryville is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. at Gil Coan Field.
