ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Brevard College sophomore student-athlete Gavin Morgan was slotted onto the USA South Conference Men's Cross Country All-Conference Second Team following his ninth-place finish at the 2019 USA South Men's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, hosted by N.C. Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Morgan officially finished Saturday's 8000-meter race with a time of 26:37.34 – an improvement on his championship time from last year by over two minutes and 30 seconds – to earn his top-10 result.

Runners placing 1-7 are named to the first team, while second-teamers are those who finish 8-14. Those on the third team finished the meet at 15-21, while placers 22-24 are named honorable mention.

Morgan's second-team selection caps off a conference season that included two USA South Runner of the Week selections. The Hayesville, North Carolina native was honored for his Runner of the Week selections on Friday evening at the Rocky Mount Mills Power House, the site of the 2019 USA South Cross Country Banquet.

Morgan has enjoyed impressive success thus far in Brevard's cross country season. The sophomore earned a top-10 finish in the season-opener at Tusculum University,  finishing with a time of 28:11 for a seventh-place finish. He placed 13th at Berea College's Mike & Mary Kay Invitational (27:57) before setting his new personal record with a 26:28 8k time at the highly-competitive Queen City Invitational, hosted by NCAA DI UNC Charlotte. Morgan earned a hard-fought podium finish at the Charleston Classic - another NCAA DI race - with a time of 27:03 that earned the sophomore third place.

In a tune-up meet to prepare for the USA South and ECAC Championships, Morgan officially ran a 28:15 to place eighth in Bob Jones University's Bruins XC Invitational last Saturday, October 26.

Next up for Morgan and teammate Michael Fader (freshman) is a trip with first-year Head Cross Country Coach Darryll Patrick up to Milton, New York for the ECAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 9.
