BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College volleyball team (2-7) dropped a three-set match to non-conference opponent Bob Jones University (8-5) on the final day of the Tornado Classic on Saturday at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
Bob Jones won the first set 25-15, then went on to win the following two frames 25-16 and 25-15 to take the straight-set victory.
Brevard was led by its versatile junior Kaitlyn Pressley who registered 10 kills, 10 assists, and five digs. Junior Makenna Parkins scored eight kills, while freshman Blair Nance added six kills.
Sophomore setter Logan Priddy led the Tornados in distribution with 15 assists to go along with four digs. Defensively, seven different Nados registered multiple digs led by sophomore Ashley Hoxit with nine.
BC delivered two service aces with both junior libero Caitlin Hagarty and Pressley delivering winners with their serves.
The Bruins were led by Camila Silva with 11 kills and setter Kiersten Hoopes with 34 assists.
The first set was a tight affair in the early going as a kill by Pressley off a Priddy assist sparked a scoring run that brought BC within three points at 13-10. The Bruins however would score 12 of the next 17 points to take the opening set win.
Similarly in the second set, Brevard took a 5-4 lead on a kill by Pressley. A 10-2 Bruins scoring run would follow to give Bob Jones the separation it needed to close out the set.
Trailing 2-0, Brevard would again take an early lead in the third set as a kill by Nance via a Pressley assist stoked a 6-2 advantage for the home team. The Bruins then went on another scoring run to take a 16-10 lead and ultimately the 25-15 set and match win.
The Brevard-Bob Jones affair was part of the Tornado Classic, a seven-match tournament that also featured Methodist, Salem, and Huntingdon.
Brevard returns to action at home on Thursday with its USA South Conference opener vs. Pfeiffer University at 6 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
