Volleyball Takes Two to Open 2022 at Labor Day Smash

DECATUR, Ga. - The Brevard College volleyball team (2-0) got off to a hot start to begin the 2022 season, as the Tornados defeated Toccoa Falls College 3-1 before sweeping host Agnes Scott College 3-0 at the Labor Day Smash Tournament on Saturday in Decatur, Georgia. 

The pair of victories mark the first career wins for Interim Head Coach Abbie Parde. 

BREVARD 3, TOCCOA FALLS 1

Junior right-side hitter Kaitlyn Pressley kicked off 2022 in style, threatening for yet another triple-double with a team-high 20 kills to go alongside 19 assists and nine digs while hitting .529 in the game. Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Hoxit added 13 kills and 12 digs for a double-double, while freshman outside hitter Blair Nance drove home nine kills in her collegiate debut. Logan Priddy dished out a team-best 22 assists, while Bailey Lance totaled 26 digs to lead the Brevard defense. 

Olivia Ryan led the Eagles with 13 kills, while Anna Cox dished out a game-high 39 kills to help pace the Toccoa Falls offense. 

Brevard edged Toccoa Falls in set number one,  25-23, before the Eagles battled back with a 25-18 set-two win. BC earned a 25-20 win in the third set before a thrilling set number four victory, 26-24, to take the season opener three sets to one, earning Parde her first victory at the helm of the BC volleyball program. 

BREVARD 3, AGNES SCOTT 0

BC turned around to face the host of the Labor Day Smash, Agnes Scott, defeating the Scotties in straight sets 3-0. 

Hoxit led all Tornados with 11 kills and a .435 hitting percentage, while Pressley added seven kills. Priddy totaled 10 assists, while junior Caitlin Hagarty (12 digs) and Lance (10 digs totaled double-digit dig totals. 

The hosts were paced by Summer Davis' 5 kills and Adrionna Foster's nine assists on offense. 

Brevard claimed the first set 25-19 before cruising to a dominant 25-7 victory in set number two. The Tornados closed out the match with a 25-16 triumph to conclude the contest, giving BC a 2-0 start to the season. 

The Tornados will prepare for the upcoming Meredith College Tournament, hosted by Meredith in Raleigh, North Carolina. Brevard faces Maryville College on Friday, September 9 at 2 p.m. before playing host Meredith at 6 p.m.
