Tornados Sweep Doubleheader over Wolves in Regular Season Finale

MACON, Ga. - The Brevard College volleyball team (4-6, 3-4 USAS) swept a doubleheader at Wesleyan (1-12, 1-7 USAS) on Saturday in Macon, Georgia to cap off BC's Spring 2021 regular season.

The Tornados defeated the Wolves in straight sets in the first match of the day that counted toward the USA South Conference standings. BC then won the second match 3-1 in a contest that was considered a non-conference competition.

Senior Raley Shirey registered 12 kills in the opening contest followed by a career-high 23 kills in the second match.  Freshman Makenna Parkins delivered with 12 kills in each match to further propel BC's offense.

Freshman Kaitlyn Pressley tallied a career-high 24 assists in match one, then set a new career-high just hours later with 39 assists in game two.

Senior Madison Hogan led BC on the defensive end with 11 digs in match one, while freshman Caitlin Hagarty recorded 10 digs in the second match.

Brevard opened the first match with a 25-17 victory in set number one.  The Tornados then dominated 25-7 in set number two.  Within the second set, BC went on an electric 11-0 run behind the service prowess of Shirey who recorded three aces during the scoring outburst. The scoring run was capped off by a kill from Parkins off a Pressley assist.

Set number three then proved to be a thriller with consecutive tied scores from 23-23 to 27-27. Following an attack error by the Wolves, the Tornados were able to clinch the set 29-27 and the match 3-0 on a service ace by Breanna Queen.

Brevard ran out to a fast start in the second match as well with a 25-18 win in the first set followed by a 25-14 second set victory.  Set number three went to Wesleyan 25-22, setting up the fourth set.

Up 23-17 and with the match victory in sight, Pressley gave BC a match point with a block on the defensive end.  The Brevard, North Carolina native then served an ace to finish off the match and the doubleheader sweep for the Tornados.
