One of her top players, Dana Thomson became the program's first AVCA All-American in program history, who also earned all-region and all-conference honors. She was also involved in the efforts of Anna Thomas, who as a freshman was selected honorable mention all-conference honors.

In 2019, Cox was named an AVCA Coaches 4 Coaches recipient, which provides up and coming volleyball coaches with a scholarship to attend the AVCA Convention and the opportunity to be mentored by successful coaches in the game.

Prior to joining the staff at South Dakota School of Mines, she spent a year as a graduate assistant coach for the University of Jamestown. The Jimmies reached the NAIA Sweet 16 for the first time in 2018. During her time at Jamestown she coached three AVCA All-American players.

As a student athlete, she had a standout career at NCAA Division II, Brevard College. With the Tornados, she was a middle blocker where she played in all 137 matches of her collegiate volleyball career.

Cox holds Brevard College's all-time block assist record and matches played --- as well as a school record in track & field --- and was a four-year starter for the Tornados and earned SAC Honor Roll accolades every semester.

Cox received her Masters in Leadership from the University of Jamestown in 2019 and a Bachelor's in Psychology from Brevard College in 2017.
