Brevard Concludes 2018 Volleyball Season with 4-Setter vs. Montreat

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College Women's Volleyball team concluded its 2018 season with a 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-22, 25-13) loss to Montreat (15-17) on Tuesday night at the Boshamer Gymnasium. 

Several Brevard players delivered strong performances both offensively and on defense. Hannah Jenkins led the Tornados with nine kills and three blocks.  Sydney Fox recorded eight kills and 17 digs, while Jordan Lloyd added 12 digs.  Setter Hannah Gordon dished out 25 assists to go along with 11 digs.  Libero Mariana Rodriguez registered a team-high 23 digs.

The Tornados put together several impressive scoring runs in the contest highlighted by an 8-0 run that led to the second set win. In the victorious second set, the Tornados came back to take the lead and ultimately won the set 26-24.

The third set saw the Tornados fall behind 8-0 to the Cavaliers to start the stanza.  Brevard stormed back with another 8-0 run to tie the set at 8-8.  The two teams played evenly for much of the remainder of the set, yet Montreat came on late for the 25-22 win.

The Cavaliers maintained that momentum into the fourth set with a 25-13 set win to take the match.

Two areas of strength for Brevard on Tuesday were the service ace on offense as well as the blocking game defensively.  As a team, the Tornados recorded six service aces and eight blocks in the contest.

The match marked the season-finale for Brevard (2-23) which won two of its last seven contests.  The young Tornados team was entirely made up of freshmen and sophomores in 2018.
