Volleyball Preseason Preview: Tornados picked 3rd in USA South’s West Division

Joseph Marvin: Assistant Sports Information Director

BREVARD, N.C. – The USA South today announced the preseason coaches' poll for women's volleyball, picking the Tornados to finish T-3rd alongside Piedmont. Both Piedmont and Brevard finished with 34 points in the preseason edition of the coaches' poll.  4th year Head Coach Anna Grant's young squad will look to build on a successful 13-7 campaign. 2017-18 also saw the Tornados finish with an 11-5 record against current conference opponents, a good sign as Brevard will be eligible this year to compete for a USA South regular-season championship.

Covenant College was selected as the favorites to top the USA South's west division. The Scots are coming off three consecutive west division titles, and two USA tournament titles in the last three seasons. Covenant earned an NCAA Tournament bid, where they won their first-round match. Finishing just ahead of Brevard was Maryville, who received a lone first-place vote to go along with 40 points. Following Brevard and Piedmont's 3rd place tie, the west division shapes up as follows: Huntingdon (5th), LaGrange (6th), Agnes Scott (7th), and Berea (8th). Over in the east division, Meredith secured preseason favorites, narrowly edging out Averett 59-58 in point total.
