Tornados Win Fourth Straight with Win at Mary Baldwin

STAUNTON, Va. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (11-3, 4-1 USAS) defeated Mary Baldwin (3-14, 2-4 USAS) 5-2 on Friday afternoon in Staunton, Virginia.  The win marked the straight victory for the Tornados.  Dating back to March 4, Brevard has won nine of its last ten matches.

The abbreviated event was impacted by rainy weather. Singles play was shortened throughout with number three and four singles using a seven-point tiebreaker to determine those winners.

The Tornados and the White Squirrels fought through the three doubles matches with BC taking a 2-1 lead into singles play.  In number two doubles, Senior Brooke Garland and sophomore Sophie Trantham won 6-2. Senior Hamrick Perry and freshman Savannah Anderson followed with a 6-4 victory in no. 3 doubles.  Mary Baldwin won in no. 1 doubles as Katlyn Massie and Gretchen Lutz topped BC sophomore Hannah Hersh and senior Alli Kogoy 6-3.

In singles play, Hersh defeated Massie 6-2 in the number one slot.  Kogoy then topped Lutz 6-3 in no. 2 singles.  Trantham won her seven-point tiebreaker 7-5 in no. 4 singles to give BC the necessary five wins.

The Tornados will be back in action on Wednesday for Senior Day at the McCoy Tennis Complex.  Following the Senior Day ceremony, Brevard will face off against Greensboro College at 3 p.m.
