BC Dominates William Peace 8-1 for USA South Win

CARY, N.C. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (8-3, 1-1 USA South) earned a dominant 8-1 road victory over USA South Conference foe William Peace University (0-4, 0-2 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at Lions Park in Cary, North Carolina.

The win continues an impressive stretch for the Tornados who conclude their competition in March with a 6-1 record for the month.

BC jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after doubles play with the team of freshman Savannah Anderson and junior Melody Ferguson leading the way with an 8-0 victory in number three doubles.  Sophomore Sophie Trantham and senior Brooke Garland were nearly as dominant in no. 2 doubles with an 8-1 win.

In the closest doubles match of the day, Brevard's number one team of senior Alli Kogoy and sophomore Hannah Hersh topped WPU's Hayley McNair and Camryn Straughn by the score of 8-5.

After Garland won no. 3 singles via a default, Brevard cruised to the team victory by not losing a single game in number four, five and six singles.  Trantham (#4), senior Hamrick Perry (#5) and Anderson (#6) combined to outscore their opponents 36-0 in singles play.

Number one and two singles proved to both be lengthy battles with tiebreakers.  Kogoy ultimately won no. 2 singles over Straughn 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.  William Peace earned its lone win in no. 1 singles as McNair topped Hersh 2-6, 6-7, 10-7.

USA South Conference play continues for Brevard with a home match versus Meredith on Saturday, April 1 at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
