Battling Bishops Take 9-0 Win over Tornados in Conference Opener

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's tennis team (7-3, 0-1 USA South) saw its five-match win streak come to a close, as the Tornados fell 9-0 to formidable NC Wesleyan University (2-5, 2-0 USAS) on Sunday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex.

BC's number-two doubles duo of Brooke Garland and Sophie Trantham earned a game win in their doubles match, but the Battling Bishops opened up a 3-0 lead in doubles action.

Singles play was highlighted by a pair of thrillers, as Kristal Dule narrowly edged Hannah Hersh in number-one singles action, 6-3, 3-6, 10-3. In number-three singles, Trantham took Cristina Mendoza Romero to a tiebreaker in the first set that Mendoza Romero barely claimed, 8-6. A 6-4 second set gave the Battling Bishops the win in the third singles slot.

The visitors were able to cruise from there to earn the sweep victory.

BC returns to action with a road trip alongside the men's squad to Cary, North Carolina to face William Peace University on Saturday, March 25 at 3 p.m.
