Six Tornados Selected as ITA Scholar-Athletes, Women’s Tennis Earns Team Academic Honor

BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College Women's Tennis student-athletes Margaret Correll, Lily Farr, Eleanor Flannery, Brooke Garland, and Sarah Iocovozzi – alongside BC alumna Carmen Boone – were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), garnering Division III Women's Scholar-Athlete status. The six selections for the Tornados helped BC claim the All-Academic Team award.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, one must meet the following requirements:

·             have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year

·             be listed on the institutional eligibility form

In order to be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:

·             have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale).

·             all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and

·             all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year

The six-member class of 2020 scholar-athletes is tied for the most-ever for a single Tornado tennis team in BC's NCAA-era, joining BC's 2016 class of honorees. Brevard women's tennis has been honored by the ITA three previous times, as the 2020 class joins 2016, 2017, and 2019 in earning national academic recognition from the ITA.

BC alumna Boone and returning students Correll (rising senior) and Flannery (rising junior) join alumna Kelsey Kushner '19 as the only Tornados to earn scholar-athlete status in multiple academic years.
