BREVARD, N.C. – Senior Carmen Boone, a four-year member of the Brevard College Women's Tennis team, is the next honoree in BC Athletics' Spring Senior Profile series, highlighting and honoring 2020 seniors in Spring sports who had their respective seasons cut short due to the impact of COVID-19.

Boone, a native of Hudson, North Carolina, will graduate from Brevard College with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing. Following graduation, Boone's future plans include working for a publishing company, such as a magazine or newspaper, with a focus on editing and/or journalism. Boone also plans to be a published poet in the future.

On the tennis courts, Boone has been a steady contributor throughout her time with BC women's tennis. All told, Boone racked up eight singles victories and seven doubles wins through her four-year playing career. During her sophomore campaign in 2017-18, Boone logged the second-most singles victories on her team with five, while also recording five doubles wins that season.

In her lone senior-season match, Boone logged a victory in the number-five singles slot, 6-0, 6-0, in BC's spring season opener against Spartanburg Methodist College on Saturday, February 15 at the McCoy Tennis Complex.

Off the courts, Boone was extremely involved on the Brevard College campus. The senior was a member of the Institute for Women in Leadership (IWIL) for the entirety of her four-year collegiate career. Boone was a four-year staff member of The Clarion – BC's campus newspaper – alongside being on The Chiaroscuro staff for two years. Boone served as the Copy Editor for The Clarion her junior and senior years.

The Hudson, N.C. native bolstered her background in journalism as an Assistant Editor and Poetry Editor for Upscale Appalachia online magazine, based in Brevard. Boone was a Teaching Assistant for a pair of classes at BC and served as an ELC English & Writing tutor for the Fall 2019 semester. In addition to her work in the classroom and on the tennis courts, Boone was a work-study in the Campus Post Office from Fall 2018 to Spring 2020.

Academically, Boone exemplified the definition of a student-athlete, making the Dean's List every semester from the Fall of 2017 to the Spring of 2020. In the Fall of 2019, Boone earned a 4.0 semester GPA with straight A's. The senior will graduate with Honors and has been a part of the Honors Program all four years at BC. In the Spring of 2019, Boone was selected to the USA South's Academic All-Conference team alongside a selection as an ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete.

"My favorite memories at Brevard College were making music with my concert choir family at our concerts and playing tennis with my teammates on the BC women's tennis team," commented Boone.
