Women Cruise to 9-0 Win Against Curry in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Brevard College women's tennis team (4-4) got right back in the win column early Tuesday morning, cruising past a short-handed Curry College (0-18) squad, 9-0 at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida.

The match was part of BC's stay in the Spring Break Sports Tournament, hosted at multiple facilities including the USTA Center.

Brevard claimed match wins in number-one doubles and earned victories in the top-three slots in singles competition. The Tornados won no. 2-3 doubles and no. 4-6 singles by default, clinching the 9-0 overall match victory.

Number-one doubles duo Samantha Sepe and Lily Farr earned an 8-2 win over Curry's Sophia Wiernusz and Alison Daigle, while the Tornados claimed the other two doubles contests by default. 

Alli Kogoy got the nod in number-one singles play, claiming a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Wiernusz. Jen Cox handled Daigle, 6-0, 6-3 in the second singles slot, while Brooke Garland clinched a 6-4, 6-2 win at the number-three singles spot against Kayla Connors. Spots four, five, and six in singles play were decided in favor of the Tornados by default, giving Brevard the 9-0 match sweep. 

With the victory, Kogoy improves to 2-0 at the number-one singles spot and 4-4 overall in singles action on the season. The doubles pairing of Sepe and Farr now hold a 3-1 record thus far in the 2020 campaign. 

Brevard's women's squad enjoys a day off tomorrow before returning to action with an action-packed doubleheader on Thursday. BC first faces The University of St. Francis at 12 p.m. before preparing for Marywood University in a 7 p.m. start.
