STAUNTON, Va. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (8-6-4, 1-4-3 USA South) fell 1-0 to host Mary Baldwin (12-5-1, 6-2-0 USAS) in a USA South Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon in Staunton, Virginia.

Brevard fired off 10 shots, with six on-goal, but were unable to find the back of the net.  Junior forward Grace Black led all players with five total shots, two of which were on-goal.  Graduate defender Emma White attempted two shots, while Hayley Kenney, Khadijah Shakirof and Autumn Wright added shots as well.

Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Arroyo played all 90 minutes for the Tornados, registering four saves.  MBU's goalkeeper Ankya Wilkin earned the win and the shutout after recording six saves.

Mary Baldwin attempted 15 shots with eight coming in the first half.  The home team found what stood as the game-winner as Shea Rider scored off an assist by Quierra Hawkins in the ninth minute.  Up 1-0, MBU held that score for the game's remaining 81 minutes to seal the victory.

Each team registered six corner kicks, while Mary Baldwin earned more free kicks as BC tallied 11 fouls compared to seven for the Fighting Squirrels. A late corner provided Brevard with a late opportunity in the 87th minute as Black sent a corner into the box that was headed on-goal by Wright yet saved by Wilkin.  Mary Baldwin then produced an offensive attack that resulted in two corner kicks in the final two minutes to help run out the clock.

Brevard will return to action with a USA South Conference road trip to Pfeiffer in Misenheimer, North Carolina on Wednesday at 4 p.m.  The Tornados will then play its regular-season finale vs. William Peace with Senior Day on Saturday, October 29 at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
