Tornados Score Two in Second Half to Earn 2-2 Draw in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Brevard College women's soccer team (6-3-4) used two second-half goals to earn a 2-2 draw on the road against Johnson & Wales NC (2-8-2) on Tuesday evening in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The result marked the fourth-consecutive draw for BC women's soccer after the come-from-behind decision in the non-conference affair.

Abby Mayer found the back of the goal in the 87th minute on an assist from Kiara Porcelli to level the contest with just three minutes left to play. After surrendering consecutive goals, the Tornados got on the board earlier in the match after Mikayla Zvekan dispossessed a Wildcat defender and found Taylor Richardson, who finished the scoring attempt in the 54th minute.

Trinity Knauf and Lauren Burch scored JWU's goals, with Katie Douglas recording an assist.

Mayer led all Tornados with four shots, including two shots on goal. Richardson added three shot attempts, with two on the mark, while Porcelli also logged a trio of shots. Grace Black and Emma White each fired two shots apiece. Mackenzie Lozano (4-1-2) recorded one save on three shots on target in the contest.

Brevard nearly tripled JWU in the shooting category, recording 18 shots to the Wildcats' seven. The hosts made eight saves, while the Tornados took four corner kicks.

Knauf found the back of the net after 28 minutes of scoreless action, collecting Douglas' pass and looping a shot in the top of the goal over Lozano's reach to give JWU the 1-0 lead. Both defenses held firm through the remainder of the first half as the Wildcats took their one-goal lead into the break.

The Tornados attempted three shot attempts in the first six minutes of action in the second half before the hosts were able to double their lead after Burch dispossessed the Tornado defense and scored one-on-one to make it a 2-0 affair. However, Brevard answered back quickly just over two minutes later as Zvekan's tackle led to Richardson's third goal of the season, cutting the deficit to a 2-1 margin.

Brevard searched for the equalizer for the remainder of the second half, totaling seven shot attempts over the next 30-plus minutes of action before finally breaking through when Mayer ripped in her 11th goal of the season on Porcelli's assist, bringing the contest level 2-2.

The hosts took a last-minute shot attempt that ended up going out high, as the two sides finished in a 2-2 draw in the non-conference meeting.

The Tornados continue their brief two-match recess from USA South action as Brevard returns home to take on Mississippi University for Women on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field. Brevard then returns to conference play on Saturday at 3 p.m. at home vs. Methodist University.
