Tornados Earn First Win of 2022 in West Virginia
BLUEFIELD, W.V. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (1-1) defeated host Bluefield College (1-1) on Saturday afternoon at the East River Soccer Complex in Bluefield, West Virginia. The win marked the first victory for the Tornados in this young 2022 season.

After a scoreless first 11 minutes of the contest, Emma White broke the deadlock with the third goal of the graduate defender's career. White, a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, blasted a direct free kick from outside the penalty box to give the Tornados the 1-0 advantage.

The score remained 1-0 through the duration of the opening half with both teams heading to intermission seeking a spark offensively.

White would be a major factor again, 12 minutes into the second half.  On another free-kick opportunity in the 57th minute, White whipped a beautiful service into the box that senior Alyssa Hetherington promptly tapped in to find the back of the net.  The goal was the seventh in the collegiate career for Hetherington, a forward from Marietta, Georgia.

Brevard went on to hold Bluefield scoreless for the final 33 minutes of the contest to take the 2-0 victory.  In fact, the Tornados did not allow a single shot by the Rams in the entire second stanza.

Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Arroyo, hailing from Yulee, Florida, earned her first career win and shutout as a collegiate student-athlete.

BC's defense, led by starting defenders White, Abbie Worsencroft, Hailey Brien, and Aliyah Vaughan, helped hold Bluefield to just one shot in the entire contest which came in the 9th minute. Subsequently, the Rams were held without a shot attempt over the game's final 81 minutes.

Brevard returns home to the friendly confines of Ives-Lemel Family Field with a non-conference matchup with local rival Warren Wilson College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
