GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Brevard College women's basketball team (6-3) used a strong defensive effort and rode a hot second quarter to a 79-53 victory over Bob Jones University (5-4) on Tuesday evening at Davis Field House in Greenville, South Carolina

Five Tornados reached double-digit scoring totals in the contest, led by freshman forward Olivia Miller who scored 16 points on an impressive 8-for-10 mark from the field. The effort marks the seventh time that the Hudson, North Carolina freshman has scored in double figures. Additionally, Miller dished out a game-high six assists and grabbed four rebounds, and logged three steals defensively.

Junior guard Calli Wells added 14 points while going 5-for-6 at the free throw line, as the Fort Mill, South Carolina product has scored double digits in three-straight games. Makenna Parkins, the reigning USA South Player of the Week, racked up her fifth double-double of the season with a 13-point, 10-rebound performance. Freshman guard Makayla Street and junior guard Chyna Pouncey each scored 11 points off the bench, while Lexi Shepard logged a game-high five steals as every Tornado in the starting lineup recorded multiple steals in a high-powered defensive effort.

BJU's Shea Dickinson made a pair of 3-pointers en route to a 12-point performance, while Tamrah Konieczka scored seven points and hauled down seven boards.

Brevard shot 47% from the field and knocked in six 3-pointers while dishing out 15 assists. However, the game was decided on the defensive end as the Tornados forced 31 Bruin turnovers that resulted in 41 points-off-turnovers for BC. Brevard's bench contributed 25 of its 79 points on the evening.

The first quarter proved tightly contested, with the Tornados clinging to a two-point lead, 17-15, after the first 10 minutes of action. The contest shifted to a second quarter that was dominated by the Tornados, who outscored Bob Jones by a 20-point, 33-13 margin as BC's defense shifted into high gear.

With the score 31-26 at the 4:44 mark, the Tornados put together a game-changing 17-0 run over the last four-plus minutes of the second stanza to take a 22-point lead into the locker room.

Brevard was able to continue applying heavy defensive pressure throughout the second half to maintain their advantage over BJU, as the Tornados wrapped up their non-conference road victory and completed a two-game season sweep over Bob Jones.

The Tornados return to USA South Conference play on Saturday, December 10 when Brevard hosts William Peace University at 2 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
