Big First Half, Five Double Figure Scorers Send Brevard to 34-Point Road Win

SWANNANOA, N.C. - Five Tornados reached double-figure scoring totals as the Brevard College women's basketball team (2-2) scored 62 first-half points en route to a dominant 93-57 road victory over Warren Wilson College (0-3) on Tuesday evening in Swannanoa, North Carolina.

Freshman forward Olivia Miller, fresh on the heels of a selection as USA South Conference Rookie of the Week, scored in double figures for the fourth consecutive game logging 14 points in just 13 minutes of action with five rebounds and three steals. Lexi Shepard added 12 points off the bench with five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Aysha Short was entered into the starting lineup, as the sophomore guard tallied 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field in addition to five rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Naliyah Boyce grabbed a team-best seven rebounds in addition to reaching double-figures at 10 points, while Journey Tyler added 10 points with four rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

Twelve of Brevard's 13 players on Tuesday played double-digit minutes, as Head Coach Donald Hudson's squad used plenty of rotations in the big victory.

Warren Wilson's Moosie Lewis led all players with 18 points and eight rebounds, but committed a game-high nine turnovers. Carmen Echols added 14 points, five rebounds, and five steals to the Owls' efforts.

Brevard's hot offensive start and defense told the story of the contest, as the Tornados eclipsed the 60-point mark in the first half of action. Each side shot similarly from the field and beyond the arc, but Brevard forced 35 Warren Wilson turnovers on 25 steals, and capitalized all game with 47 points off turnovers. BC scored 52 points in the paint, 18 fastbreak points, and 44 of its 93 points came off the bench.

The Tornados began things with a 17-4 scoring run through the first five minutes of play to set the tone for their big first half. Brevard led 32-14 after one quarter of play thanks to a well-balanced offensive attack led by Alexis Marshall (seven points) and Shepard's seven points in the first stanza.

The second quarter proved more of the same for the visitors, as Brevard used eight points from Tyler and seven from Makayla Street to propel a 30-point second quarter, as the Tornados held a 62-26 lead at the intermission.

BC edged Warren Wilson in the third quarter, 18-15, and the Owls were able to outscore Brevard 18-13 in the fourth period as the Tornados wrapped up their sizable victory, 93-59.

The Tornados open USA South Conference play up on the road Friday in Rocky Mount, North Carolina against NC Wesleyan University at 7 p.m.
