Late Comeback Effort Falls Just Short for Tornados vs. Anderson

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Brevard College women's basketball team (1-2) concluded play at the Mountaintop Madness preseason tournament hosted by Covenant College, as the Tornados fell in a high-scoring affair to Anderson University (1-1), 90-82 on Saturday afternoon.

Makenna Parkins led all Tornados with 18 points while hauling down a career-best 17 rebounds to lead all players in the contest. Freshman forward Olivia Miller added a 17-point effort, while junior guard Calli Wells scored 15 points. Chyna Pouncey contributed nine points off the bench for Brevard in her season debut for the Tornados. Sophomore guard Lexi Shepard led BC with six assists while Parkins added five.

Anderson's Lexi Dellinger exploded for a 40-point effort on 11-of-18 shooting from the field and a 14-for-15 mark at the charity stripe. Jade Shipley (13 points) and Bella Larrison (12 points) also finished in double figures for AU, with Dellinger grabbing a team-best eight rebounds.

Both sides were nearly identical from the field, but Anderson hit seven 3-pointers to BC's one. BC fell despite a sizable 51-40 rebounding advantage, while Anderson forced 29 Brevard turnovers. Each team scored 21 points off turnovers, while BC outscored AU 56-36 in the painted area.

Anderson took the early double-digit lead with a 21-10 margin in the first quarter followed by a 27-22 advantage in the second period, as AU took a 48-32 lead into the halftime intermission. Anderson outscored BC 24-20 in the third quarter before Brevard battled back in the fourth with a 30-point outburst from the Tornados. Trailing by as many as 23 points in the fourth period, the Tornados cut the deficit all the way down to eight points. However, that was as close as time would allow the Brevard to get as Anderson took the tournament win, 90-82 in the program's first-ever meeting between each other.

Brevard is back in action on Tuesday, November 15 at 7 p.m. as the Tornados travel to nearby Swannanoa, North Carolina to take on Warren Wilson College.
